My mother told me this recipe, I like the taste very much, maybe you will too!
Ingredients:
1 big onion
1 big tomato
Channa dhal
Urad dhal
Red chillies
Pepper
Dhania (Coriander seeds)
Jeera (Cumin seeds)
Recipe:
Take the same amount of squeezed tamarind extract as you would for a 2-person Sambar or 'Vendhaya Kuzhambu' (vatthak kuzhambu), that is, the extract from a Lemon sized tamarind.
Now grind 1/2 big onion (raw) and about 2 plum tomatoes (or 1 big tomato) together in the mixie and keep it aside.
Then roast 1 1/2 tsp Channa dhal (kadalai paruppu), 1 1/2 tsp Urad dhal (uluttham paruppu), 4 -5 red chillies, 1/4 tsp pepper, 1 tsp Dhania (coriander seeds) and a small amount of Jeera (cumin seeds).
Grind the above roasted ingredients into a paste with water.
Now add the onion/tomato mix and the ground spices with the tamarind extract, add salt and bring it to a good boil, to the consistency of 'Vatthak Kuzhambu'.
Enjoy!
