Karthigai Deepam :
Karthigai Deepam is a traditional hindu festival in Tamilnadu. It is also celebrate in Karnataka, Kerela and Andhra pradesh. This festival is celebrated on full moon day when the moon is in line with six stars which is called as “Karthigai”. People celebrate this occassion for ten days in November and December month.
History :
Hindu Scripture states that there was a fight happening between lord brahma and lord vishnu for superiority. Lord shiva tried to stop them, then he took a huge fire and told them both to find the top and bottom of it. Both tried and failed to find it. And thus Lord Shiva proved that he is the main god of the earth and there is no use of fighting among other gods. He then appeared as a hill shape on Thiruvannamalai region.
Another link to this day is Lord muruga adopted the form of six babies in Saravana Poigai. So, he is popularly called as “Aarumugam”
Celebrations :
People consider Lord Shiva as a protector and they have complete faith and respect to him. Sri Annamalaiar Hill is considered as Lord Shiva's great presence in Thiruvannamalai. People worship him specially at 5p.m by lighting lights in Thiruvannamalai. They believe that it will impress god and he will shower the blessings to them. The main concept of this festival is to keep away all the bad things and get the holy things alone in life.

- People wear new clothes and blow crackers.

- People will mostly celebrate this festival with all relatives together.
- They even present all type of lamps to friends and family.
