Kula deivam

Dear Friends ,
Recently I was travelling back from New Delhi to Bangalore by Train.
One of my co-passenger was an ex M.P. from T.N.We travelled for almost 2 days together and were chatting on general topics, cricketer of yester year and ofcourse politics on first day. Next morning we started chatting about Castes religions and other general topics.
That gentleman is a converted Christian and follows Christianity sincierly.
He was quoting that one of his brother was not blessed with kids almost for a decade after marriage. Some unknown persons have suggested them to visit their Kula Deivam Koil and prey for Vamsa vridhi. With great difficulty they could identify their Kula Deivam in a remote village and offered prayers as per the norm of the Temple.
Next year he was blessed with a Beautiful Girl followed by 2 more male kids.
But as per Christianity norms he should pay a fine to the Church were he belongs to for making offerings/visiting other community temples.
Now he pays fine to his church every year.
The best part is his father adopted Christianity when his mother was about to deliver his Brother ( about 60 years back ).
Kula deivam for Kula vridhi.
Since then I have made it a practice to visit my Kula Deivam whenever possible.

Yes sir.. Kuladeivam is most important...
I too go to kuladeivam temple without fail every year...
all members should also go without fail..
( i was used to tell by my mother, if not "Saami Kochikum, and Kettathu ellam nadakkum"....)

Kula Deivam

Thanks a lot for your reply Guruji.
My intention was just to share my experience.
Though due to circumstances or for whatever it is that Gentleman have adopted Christianinty.
I generally feel that it is only the beleif more than anything else.
Am sure no God will segregate the casteism or anything of that sort.
You put forth the best effort, beleive in God ( whomsoever it may be ). Am sure the results of all your effort will be always good.
When you are in doubt about the path or the way ,you prey your ishta deivam in the traditional way , He or she the Almighty will direct you in the right direction. Ofcourse the end result must be really good one.

My learned friends,
Quite often we are unable to find out who is our kula deivam ? Some go to Tirupathi,
some to Palani, some to Mayilam for having their heads tonsured and think that the
Deity there is their kula deivam. But, I heard that it is not so. Is it possible to find it
out thru' study of horoscope or one has to go thru prasnam. Can someone throw
some light on this. Thanks.

Normally it could be learnt from family elders or from native village or as a last resort we can consult some persons with clairvoyant skills or prashnam .Prshanam can find out depending on how skilled the astrologer is.I have seen quite a few clairvoyant persons

Shri Iyengar,

1. You may go by the advice of your Acharya and henceforth follow that advice.
2. You may consult a reliable astrologer and find out the probable deity and the place where the temple may be and then try to locate it.
3. If you have any "ishta devata" you may decide a temple of that devata and follow that as your kula deivam hereafter.

FYI, I know of families who have done 3 above as also another family (then very rich and resourceful) who built a new temple for their kuladeivam in their village and this is being worshipped as kuladeivam by that family now in its 5th. generation from the brothers who built the temple.

Dear Members,

Really it is an interesting topic for discussions. Now a days where the families are with only one child the concept of Kula Deivam may disappear if the child happens to be a daughter. After marriage she may get a new Kula Deivam of her husband. Like the way we match horscopes for marriage a day may come where we may have to look for alliance with families having same Kula Deivam. This will be all the more relevant when Kula Deivams temples situated in small villages. For information our Kula Deivam is Sri Angallamman and the temple is situated in a village - Nerur - 10 KM from Karur.

Shri Venkat,

Nowadays I find even the daughters and their husbands, children visiting the (daughter's) kuladeivam as often as they can so that the contact with her father's distant relatives is not completely lost. This is more seen when someone had only female children.
