Lipstick revolves around four Indian women, from ages 18 to 55, living in a small town who assert their personal and sexual rights.

In an official letter, peppered with grammatical and spelling errors, to the film's producer, Prakash Jha, India's Censor Board for Film Certification said that the film's "story is lady oriented, their fantasy above life. There are contanious sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused under guidelines."

Why the word Burqa?

The name of the movie should be changed to be neutral so that it does not use words that have religious connection of any one particular community.

I also dont get it why anything about women empowerment needs to be almost porn like?

Female Empowerment is about taking charge of our life and not be unfairly treated but at the same time retaining our feminity and values and not be a rival to a male but rather love him with all our heart.

Empowerment is not about sex and sensuality.

Dumb director..I rather watch porn than see movies like this.

At least porn is hardcore truth...one can watch it with Shraddha.

Movies like Lipstick under my Burqa is the False Notion of Truth...just an avalanche of thoughts!LOL

I am not able to comment without seeing the film.

India is a permissive country.

We can wait for it to be cleared.

After a few awards at film festivals abroad , this film will get cleared.

At present the best available option is kangana ranaut starrer 'Rangoon'.

Partly based on the life of fearless Nadia and Homi wadia who has taken the producers to court , this film makes a statement on womens rights and preferances.

Another beauty from vishal bharadwaj likely to win awards for Kangna ranaut.

I saw it on day of release yesterday.

What better way to enjoy maha sivarathri?

Yes - Better than வெல்ல தாேசை & பாசி பருப்பு பாயசம்!
Geisha yoga is a better choice than Isha !

In my student days in bangalore used to see telugu mythologicals of NTR and others late sivarathri evenings at kempegowda circle[majestic area] .There were 12-13

movie houses there .The whole area used to get lit up with people thronging in thousands.

See how times have changed.

Now prefer kangna ranaut to NTR.lol

I am reminded of amAvAsai and Abdul Kader when I read Krish Sir's post!

He is NOT supposed to celebrate SivarAthri. His is only Vaikuntha EkAdasi!

CBFC Chief Pahlaj Nhalani's version is that the content of the film is problematic and not the use of the word 'Burkha'.

There may be some authorities who will not succumb to social media pressures.

Producer of ‘Lipstick Under my Burkha’, described by censors as ‘lady oriented’, readies for battle

PrakashJha says he will appeal to the Film Certification and Appellate Tribunal, evenas the CBFC defends its decision.

Prakash Jha hashad numerous runs-in with the Central Board of Film Certification, both as adirector and a producer. “Raajneeti had problems, Chakravyuh had problems, Aarakshan had problems, and Jai Gangaajal had several cuts, which were reducedafter we went to the Film Certification and Appellate Tribunal,” he told Scroll.in. “People must be wondering why all my films have censorproblems.”

Jha will beknocking once again on the doors of FCAT, which has emerged as a sanctuary ofreason and calm within the Central Board of Film Certification. Jha’s latestproduction LipstickUnder My Burkha, awoman’s empowerment drama directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, has been denied acertificate on the ground that it contains deeply objectionable material. TheCBFC’s letterof rejection has made internationalheadlines for its toneand mangling of the English language.

In delhi sivarathri is a holiday not vaikunta ekadesi.

Probably more are saivites here.

So join the masses and celebrate.

Yesterday I saw many women carrying metals pots with water and puja materials heading for siva temple opposite my home.

Even our PM spent his time in coimbotore with esha guru Jaggi vasudev worshipping linga .

Only I preferred to see a movie .The movie house was more than 50% full on the first day of release at a multiplex.

When I have more than six multiplexes near my home at 10-15 minutes drive distance, I am tempted to go to one on the slightest pretext.

Film wins award but no certificate...

Nihalani vs Lipstick Under My Burkha: Won’t succumb to social media trolls

CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani says it’s the content of the film Lipstick Under My Burkha that is problematic and not the use of the word ‘burkha’ in the title; says he would not give in to social media pressure.

Pahlaj Nihalani has finally addressed the controversy around the upcoming Prakash Jha film, Lipstick Under My Burkha. The CBFC chief said to ANI that while he supports women empowerment, he doesn’t believe that the film is taking the right approach. He also said that he would “not succumb to social media pressure.”

The statement comes after CBFC has refused to certify Lipstick Under My Burkha, for its reported sexual scenes, abusive words and audio pornography. The movie’s trailer had garnered praises from film fraternity for depicting the secrets of small-town women.

Objection is on content not on word ‘burkha’ in title. In favour of women empowerment, but the projection not right,” he said.
Nihalani also accused media of not doing enough research on the topic before conducting debates on the same. “Debates are running on TV channels but they have not done their homework on CBFC guidelines,” he added.

Now there is a muslim outfit seeking film's ban...

'Lipstick Under My Burkha against tenets of Islam': Muslim outfit seeks film ban

An outift based in Madhya Pradesh has stated that film is against the dignity of Muslim women.

Bhopal:
A Muslim organisation here has asked the censor board not to clear the Prakash Jha-produced film 'Lipstick Under My Burkha'.

Let’s tell tales celebrating women’s desires, such as where Shakti demands Shiva satisfy her and he does

Fantasy frightens us, especially female fantasy. How do we regulate it? We can control a woman’s body, lock her in the house, cover her face with a veil, but how do we control her mind. For in her mind, she can imagine a better man, a perfect man, which renders the real men in her life inadequate. Her body can be invaded and violated, but can her mind ever be truly domesticated?

These questions emerge as we hear of censor boards denying certificates to films celebrating female fantasy, and of policemen and politicians physically attacking women, against all norms of civilised conduct, arguing that surely if women want to ‘fantasise’ about being equal to men, surely they can handle a punch or two.

When any film gives portrays the real feelings of women in patriarchal setups sanctioned by religion, the extreme religious groups feel threatened.

These groups join hands to fix these women.

We have the daughter of a kargil martyr being threatened with dire consequences for protesting against online harassment.

It is shame.

Khurram told HT that nobody has the right to comment on a “sensitive issue” like the burkha, which is worn out of choice by Muslim women.

In India everyone has a right to voice his protest in a democratic way……… and it is shame if they are not alowed to do that....

Muslim leaders call for boycott of Lipstick Under My Burkha, plan legal action

Khurram told HT that nobody has the right to comment on a “sensitive issue” like the burkha, which is worn out of choice by Muslim women. “If somebody peeps into the burkha worn by our sisters and daughters, we won’t remain silent. Burkha is an Islamic tradition, and nobody has the right to talk about it in a negative way,” he said.

He said the “tradition of burkha” was not limited solely to Muslims. “Even Hindu women in various parts of the country – including Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh – opt for parda dhari (using a veil to cover the face). In such circumstances, why should they focus only on us with regard to such a sensitive, personal matter?” Khurram argued.

The committee’s state unit chairman said the resolution passed in the majilis-e-shura urges the country’s 24-crore Muslim population to boycott the movie. “We also plan to take legal action against the filmmakers. We are talking to lawyers and collecting documents related to the movie,” he added.

[h=1]Lipstick Under My Burkha: Pahlaj Nihalani is just maintaining the status quo of Hindi film industry[/h]

[h=2]Lipstick Under My Burkha, like Angry Indian Goddesses (2015) and parts of Haraamkhor (2016), explores female desire, a wonder unheard of entirely in the Hindi film industry[/h]
In simple terms, the voyeuristic desire of the male, defined how a woman would be portrayed in images and this idea quickly translated to the moving image. Nihalani’s verdict is in fact, not shocking at all. Nor can we ask him to grow up. Nihalani’s verdict is very much in line with how the representers view women. To blame only him would be to absolve the holier-than-thou Hindi film industry that is up in arms against him. Lipstick Under My Burkha is an anomaly in the film industry itself, without even taking into account Mastizaade (2016) and Kya Kool Hain Hum (2016) for their blatant soft pornography.
