Love in the Digital Age: Gomathi & Prashanth

“Love doesn’t happen one sudden day,” she says. “It takes a really long time. I feel like we are still falling in love.”
Very true!

When it was not a digital age, parents chose a good groom / bride and the couple started 'love' only after their wedding.

Now some guys love for years together and yet unable to finalize their wedding! :becky:

Love for the sake of life……….. start in marriage …. love continue through out life......... never ending.

Love for the sake of love: love through out life ……….. never ending and never started.

Nice story..How Gomathi started loving Prashanth as the relationship grew is well described...So parents who fear for their daughters going astray in a foreign land when sent for studies, this will give a reassurance!

Dear Ganesh

'Astray' is rather a harsh word because it also means 'into error or morally questionable behaviour'!

Not all girls fall in love with non Indians.

BTW, Indians are chosen as life partners in some countries because the moral values in India are higher

and the possibility of NOT breaking the marriage is much more with such partners. :thumb:

Though I am in india, I like this parent arranged love marriage a decent solution even in india when people are separated geographically.

First parents float a profile in matrimonial web site like bharat/tamil matrimonyor shadi.com , short list a few based on their choice or their perception of their childrens

choice. then leave it to boy and girl to talk online or skype more than a few times before risking to meet in person and date a few times and decide.

In fact one can find a good match in 3 months or so.

But parents need to short list objectively with minimal reject criteria.so that they get sufficient matches for short listing 3 to 5 of them.

at least couple of them should get to the final stage after dating for a yes.

I am close to finalising one for a boy who was above average but not academically or professionally a high flier.

But a matrimonial site helped to get a match.

So I am close to have my quota of marriage for this year getting filled up.

Who says getting married for brahmin boys is difficult.

My take is parents do not know how to go about it keeping the realities and requitrements of 21st century

I had posted his profile in our forum a couple of months back with no response .lol

Dear Raji Madam,

I had used the word astray for getting into a relationship in IC, IR & IRa...The 3rd being inter race....As it is taboo (I do not want a separate discussion in this thread)..I had used astray

Incidentally, as suggested by Krish, arranging meeting of the boy & girl & having an open discussion will help in clearing the air & lead to a better understanding between the boy & girl that may lead to fructification of marriage!!

For parents who fear their children going astray, they would have themselves to blame. I do not say this from arrogance, but as a matter worth reflection. Could it not also mean that the parents have failed to bring up their kids in a way that they become emotionally balanced and responsible individuals?

I think no one can generalize (on a conclusion) about "love". Each experience is unique and might present a different facet.

Started laughing so loud that Ram thought I was going nuts!

Yeah! Reminds me of the time when we started our 'search'! :)
As an enthusiastic mom, a singer and a composer, I appreciate the song. :clap2:

The words 'our poNdAti' might have been 'son's poNdAti'!! ;)

P.S: As I clicked one thumbs up, I saw the number as 2!! How come, I wondered; then found Krish Sir online! :)

I could not type the message last night (in Boston) as soon as I saw that video because I was laughing so much! :)

I could relate to it because the boy in our family who got engaged today is 6 ft 1" MBA and the girl he got engaged to is tall 5'8" fair and homely.

She will really be making chapathis for the boy who is mumbai based.lol

The nischaya dhartham document signed was in tanglish as the girls parents were kannada iyengars and boys delhi tamil hindi iyengars.

Songs sung were kannada purandaradasa composition by girls mother and telugu devotional thyagaraja by boys aunt.

Picture of tirupathi srinivasa and padmavathy thayar were displayed with lot of reverance.

Both parties conversed mostly in english as that was the common tongue comfortable for both.

I happened to ask the prospective sambandhi what kind of girl he is looking for his son again 6ft plus.in US working for an auto major.

His specs for a match-tall , not US born, but may be in US willing to return to india and her brahmin parent should not have sangu chakram signs on his person [he meant non

orthodox. I suppose]. So this is what a brahmin liberal desires.

Yesterday appeared to be a big muhurtham day.

I attended a NRI boy and delhi tamil girl marriage reception. Both were iyers.

Interesting The NRI gang in various attires suiting their life abroad and hair styles having a get together in india with a few generations of extended family during marriage.

our local fellow father of girl is a civil contractor who made it big with civil contracts in gulf.

He had invited all tamil brahmins in east delhi along with his north indian neighbours numbering more than 200. So it became a gathering of east delhi tamils also.

The girls was a drop out -from engg after 2 years saying her passion was music, later on joined BA hons music again drop out after 2 years as she lost interest. So

father thought just get her married To NRI.lol

The girls mother also did not believe in doing anything worthwhile in life and is happy with money husband makes in gulf. She refused to go to gulf with him and is

staying in delhi with daughter.

NRI wanted a liberal cultured brahmin girl and he got it.lol

Girl wanted a NRI whose money she could blow up.

So all round satisfaction .

These people fed 500 plus guests -good for future business.

Both the girl and boy were looking healthy[local term for fat]

So this is good living.

The food was excellent served on plantain leaves and tasted wonderful.

So now you know what a NRI who wants a liberal brahmin girl from india gets .lol

I had written in another thread about the family of an iyengar boy in delhi opting for non tamil north indian working girl whom they came across a a function and liked.

Their only condition was the marriage to be performed as per iyengar conventions.

Since the girl was my sisters neighbour, she offered to help the girl and her parents in wedding ceremony.

Some feedback.

The iyengar family was a chaotic family with no idea how to go about it.

My sister helped the girl to tie 9 yards sari in vaishnavite style.

In pidi chutrathu, after a few women going around with lighted diyas they simply hung up with coloured and white cooked rice in vessels. the sastrigal simply picked the

whole container of rice and immersed it in coloured water and emptied it . poor chap.

next, For Ammi midithal, they did not bring the ammi . They thought food contracter might have one. He did not.

So the situation was saved by a concrete cement slab serving as Ammi.lol

Thali tying got delayed with sastri crying hoarse that muhurtham time was slipping. Boys mother acted unconcerned. Boys father sat in a chair waiting for the girl in right

dress and she had to be helped to wear the saree by my sister.

After tying the knots by the groom , they were wondering who will tie the remaining knot. as the boy did not have a sister. My sister did that and finished it off.

See vaishnavites hang together. Any thing for vaishnavite cause. I pitied the sastrigal who had to transact the chaos and see it through. All for a bit of dakshina.

He got a fat fee for performing the marriage rituals.
