LOL!

But when it comes to wealth and success he is a Marwari no doubt!

Wonder why he wants to claim to be what he is not? Is he married?? May be he likes a TB female!

BTW he said this:

# Anant Goenka: “[As a Marwari, I have] an inherent drive to spend wisely and to build wealth. Whether large or small, [the 2,500 sq ft bachelor pad he bought after running up hefty hotel bills] is our own. It’s a Marwari thing. We are obsessed with appreciation.”

He poses with his son. Marriage confers many advantages to a marwari, wealth acquisition and retention within group is one.

My grandmother was in Mannady, and I remember there were many Marwadis there.

I dont get it..how can a cat become a mouse or a mouse become a cat cos the cat lived near mice or the mouse lived near cats.

Does not make sense right?

How can anyone claim to be another caste when he is actually from another caste?

I dont see any valid reason why he even needs to claim this..unless he is trying to impress a TB female!LOL

I have seen such behavior in males..suddenly they would want to identify themselves with the caste of the girl they fancy and after marriage there would be a 180 degree turn and the guy will revert to his original caste tradition and the girl would wonder what happened suddenly.

When I was young I grew up in a place surrounded by jungle and many of my "best buddies" were monkeys from the jungle..but I still remained human!LOL

His father was close to Rajaji; take your pick!

BTW you sound pretty "excited" that a Marwari claims to be a TB!LOL

Actually may I know why you even started this thread? Does it really matter who feels what?

When he wants to be one, why criticize; one can be happy that he has picked up from environment (neighbourhood) and association some brahminical values, customs and traditions (what has appealed to him and influenced him). Don't we have indo americans who are more american than the white americans and have a healthy disrespect for hindutva and traditional hindu values and systems.

One can love, learn from, ignore, or hunt monkeys as per his/her mental disposition. There was a BBC programme on a monkey population in a rajastani town - people tolerate the rowdy behaviour, mainly stealing food, of the monkeys and co exist.

Dear Sarang ji,

I am not criticizing but I always view a person who claims to be "another" with a little suspicion.

Those who claim to be what they are not are usually hiding something.

BTW my "monkey buddies" were very well behaved.

I have noted that some of us Indians tend to get real "excited" when some other race or community tries to follow our traditions..its looks as if some of us are constantly looking for appreciation and acknowledgement of some kind or the other...why?? is is becos of lack of confidence that we get carried away when others try to follow our traditions?

I was just wondering if it was a TB who said "I see myself as a proper Marwari having growing up among Marwaris"...I am pretty sure many might start to comment that he left his dharma..loss his Brahmanical values etc.

What say you Sarang ji?

Don't you want others to improve themselves even if they want!!!!

Voluntary mobility must be welcomed.

LOL!

So that means becoming more Indian/Hindu alone is improving a person? Is there any one race/community that is the BEST in the world? No isnt it? Every race/community comes with the good, the bad and the ugly.

Your statement is not 100% accurate cos any race/religion/community can become their personal best..unless you feel that only one race or community or religion is the best!LOL

BTW one can excel without the need to be an "impostor".

I am a brahmin by birth. I wonder why anyone would like to be a brahmin either thru false projection or by association. It does not confer any
benefit in economic sense . it is one of the deprived communities.its rituals are performed in sanskrit which most do not know. this brahminism along with vegetarianism and difficult to perform rituals is an albatross around the neck of the brahmins. add to it the difficulties due to discrimination in edn. and jobs and inability to find suitable matches for menfolk ,it can not be a desirable goal to aim at.why a marwari or anyone else would want it is a mystery.marwari thinks of economics . he could have chosen some other community in tamilnadu with whom he can have a synergy.

When the words are from the horse's mouth, no one wants to take them at face value and accept. When someone says I, a born brahmin, is not one, he gets several likes!

If some one says I am a brahmin by conviction, I am not going to object or discourage, but welcome his stand.

what does your post advocate?
those who are not brahmins should emulate you and undergo sufferings in day to day life like you.since you are a brahmin by conviction ., you would like to keep quiet when others tend to follow brahmins way of living when they are not one by birth and welcome his stand.
why can a person be what he is without worrying about his caste. why should he try to belong to another caste . this appears dicey. every one can either accept his caste or be against caste and become non casteist. you are what you are and it would be wise to not project what you are not .this is my honest opinion

Why being born in a caste better than being born in another caste. I have no litmus test for person claiming caste by gunas.
If some one born in an Anglo-saxon family in Midwest America claims that he is a Brahmin, why would I fight it. He is not going to get any special reserved quota jobs, he may not even be allowed in a Hindu Temple.
Caste is purely an identity, just as state, or country.
Krishji, how do you know that person is not a casteist? There are racist in every part of the world, similarly there are secret Casteist.

The only link probably he thinks that majority of Brahmins are still vegetarians.

A Marwari might feel he is like a TB and a TB might like the idea of a Marwari wanting to feel like a TB....but there is a simple test to differentiate a TB from a Marwari.

Just place some big amount of cash in front of a TB and a Marwari.

The TB will start to mentally calculate how much cash there is in front of him but by then the Marwari would have calculated how much interest he can get from that cash!LOL

Dear Sarang ji,

How can anyone be someone else?

Ok I will give you a simple example.

I am a citizen of M'sia...studied in India for my degree...I am crazy about Chinese food..prefer it to even Indian food..I have a rather practical semi westernized way of thinking with slight eastern influence, do not follow too much of any culture of any sorts....just aiming to be a normal human being..I hang around almost daily in a TB forum . ...but if you ask me "who do I feel I am like"..my answer will be "I am what I am...I can only be myself"

Marwaris are intelligent (cunning) and money minded!

As far as Goenka is concerned, by saying that being in Chennai he has imbibed some habits of Brahmins (may be being frugal ) it is not wrong per se! He may try to improve his public standing in North!
