Yesterday was May Day - passed of unnoticed! No flag hoisiting or rally and public meetings I think even in Moscow the May Day parade was missing Nothing about this in today mornings News papers!. But interestingly May Day is celebrated as Thali Ajeets Birthday with banners all over the city !! What happened to our Labour movements! Enjoying holiday with no participation?

How can Chennai forget May Day.

Even here May Day was celebrated and reported in Dailies.

Chennai has the uniqueness of having erected a statue and we do celebrate the importance of labour every moment when one views the statue at Marina Beach.

And for us ‘Everyday is May Day’.

The Triumph of Labour, also known as the Labour statue, is a statue at the Marina Beach, Chennai, India. Erected at the northern end of the beach at the Anna Square opposite University of Madras, it is an important landmark of Chennai. The statue shows four men toiling to move a rock, depicting the hard work of the labouring class. It bears a semblance to the famed World War II photograph of the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima by the American Marines. It was sculpted by Debi Prasad Roy Chowdhry. The statue is the earliest one to be erected on the beach[SUP][1][/SUP] and is installed close to the site where the country's first commemoration of May Day was held.
