Wow, may be they were like Rosa Parks, trying to fight discrimination, on second thought No, not at all. They were jerks and hope this picture drives the point home.

In such cases, Male youths present in the Compartment should come Forward and Protest those occupying Ladies Seat, but this seldom happens !!

there is general lack of civil behaviour . but metros are normally much better than buses.ladies always live with fear of molestation ,atleast eve teasing in buses.nobody including driver /conductor confront such rowdy elements. metro is a relief. similarly ladies would prefer autos to taxis. since auto is open ,ladies can call for help. delhi is not the place for working ladies or girl students.specially after dark, the outlying colonies are very unsafe. even escorts do not help much if a lady is a target for any reason.

Krish Sir

It seems Chennai is more safer in that respect, so also Calcutta; In Chennai Buses very seldom Male passengers occupy ladies seat and even if they do, seeing a Lady with a Child, they normally get up.

In Calcutta, other male passengers will come to help a Lady passenger if anyone harass her.

PJsir
for ladies calcutta is best. they respect their womenfolk.
in chennai ladies can safely travel even in late evenings. or early morning. only the city goes dead by nine thirty or so in the evening. one has to think a lot before venturing out later than that

Chennai is no more safe for Women travelers after 9 Pm, with migration of workers from remote villages of Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa, Assam; the recent case of IBM Female software who was raped and murdered by is a pointer to this.

Females going out after 9 pm with a single male escort nowadays in any metro is not safe.

what is happening in chennai or bangalore can be traced to work culture promoted by IT companies and MNCs and migration of north labour
1.IT and MNC companies in their greed to serve clients in US or europe ,they use female workers in late evening shifts without caring for their security. even those in morning shifts get held back till late evenings.also they do have a cab/bus service at fixed times .so many times girls wanting to leave earlier try to go on their own compromising their security.some use their own two wheelers in lonely streches of roads as the offices are outside the city often 20-25 km away.
this is one industry with no regulation. the workplaces are no better than sweatshops.our girls get into these jobs for monetory considerations egged on by parents.
2. the migrant labour has moved to chennai or bangalore for low level jobs of construction, security, waiters, other hospitality jobs. it is said construction will comme to a dead halt if this labour goes away. they are paid poorly and are exploited . our local population have got educated and moved on to better jobs leaving the field to northerners from poor states. these labour classes often singles have no outlets for satisfying their physical needs. hence the local girls have become vulnerable.
there is no way out. govt should move in and bring regulation to IT industry. ban working for ladies after 6pm until they can come to terms with the issues involved.

I feel seat should be reserved only for the following :

1)Pregnant ladies

2)Disabled individuals(both male and females)

3)Mothers with babies.

4)Fathers with babies

5)Senior citizens (both male and females)

6)Children less than 12 years old.

The rest can very well stand.

Otherwise it is not fair for a female to be given a seat purely based on the fact that she is a female...cos being female does not mean that we want to be pampered.

When we preach equality we females should learn how to stand if we do not need the seat.

hi

general courtesy is required in public transport.....civil mannerism is has to learned...in USA...opening/closing doors of big shops

for the fellow customers....it has to learned...not to be taught....we want to follow western culture...but we dont like to

learn western attitudes towards women/kids.....some times north indians are most arrogants..when compare with south....

TBS Garu,

Western men tend to be very helpful and polite most of the while.

But I dont know if North Indians are more arrogant than South Indians...its hard to generalize.

So far in my stay in India I found that Tamil Nadu guys tend to be very helpful..they are willing to line up for you and buy cinema tickets even though they do not know you.

giving seats to ladies falls under the head general courtesy. same for opening /closing doors of cars .these cost nothing and men can very well observe.there is no issue of equality here.IMHO
of course if ladies like to stand in crowded compartments in train or crowded buses and get jostled/squeezed , for the sake of equality it is their choice

Dear Krish ji,

As I said..not all females want to be pampered when the situation does not warrant. It is better to give a seat to a deserving person and not just go by gender.

I also disagree that when in times of emergency men stay back and women are sent first to safety.
I feel a deserving person irrespective of gender needs to be send to safety first.

It is best to be logical. If someone holds a door for me I will smile and say thank you and at the same time I dont mind holding a door for a male too(have done that many times).

In India when I was a student I had given my bus seat to elderly males from the village too.

I dont see any harm if we try to look at anyone beyond their gender and try to look at everyone as a person.

So the person is need gets the seat and not becos the person happened to be a female.

BTW getting jostled/squeezed etc can happen anywhere in India..even while getting down from a bus or coming out from a movie cinema or sometimes even in a crowded temple.

frankly it is not wrong to be pampered .
if giving seat is not at the expense of more deserving such as elderly with disability , it should be ok
if it is between just men and women ,it is not harmful if women get it.

hi

just curious.....how can a man sit...while a lady with a kid stands...just we have to think abt our own mother/sister in the same situation...

or an elderly woman needs support....these are basic humanity....there is not rocket science thinking required,,,just a basic human

tendency....to help other human beings...its ok...some a young gal wants to stand to show her beauty for others..but

not for elderly mothers/kids with mothers....

Dear Krish Ji,

I still feel it depends on the situation and the mindset of the male and female.

When we travel it is best to try to be independent and only act helpless when we really need to.

TBS garu,

We need to get real..why have Akka/Thangachi/Amma sentiment here?

I have never heard a western man who had done me any favor say "Oh you are like my sister"

He extends help without getting personal.

BTW do you really expect me to believe guys look at females as Akka/Thangachi/Amma etc?

You yourself did say that unless a young girl wants to stand to show her beauty!LOL That time why no Thangachi sentiment and let Thangachi sit down instead of her displaying her beauty?? Ha Ha Ha

So TBS garu..all this sentiment does not work yaar..just do what is right. We should help someone without imagining them to be our own blood...just do our duty right and that should suffice.
