Microsoft is cutting off 18,000 Jobs, in one of the deadliest layoffs in Tech History

As Microsoft starts to adapt to the new direction that their new CEO is leading them in, there are a lot of changes happening within. The focus is shifting from Computers and Local Storage to Mobile Computing and Cloud Storage.


Today, Microsoft has announced that it will be laying off 18,000 people. It is a big number, and is one of the deadliest layoffs in the history of Tech. It is actually the biggest in the history of Microsoft.The Tech Holocaust, if you may.
“The first step to building the right organization for our ambitions is to realign our workforce. “, wrote Satya Nadella in an open letter to the Employees.
Nokia Employees affected by Microsoft Layoffs

The real kicker? 12,500 of those 18,000 Jobs are from Nokia, a company that was recently gobbled up by Microsoft. This is taking place as Nokia gets fully absorbed by the giant that is Microsoft.
“My promise to you is that we will go through this process in the most thoughtful and transparent way possible. “
Microsoft is working on getting the first 13,000 out of the door. Employees who are on the list will get a notification over the next six months. Employees won’t just be shown the door. Microsoft will offer severance to those affected and also even help in job-transition.
A new and better, continually evolving Microsoft

There will be fewer layers of management. This is will result in Microsoft moving faster due to quicker decisions and better management.
There is only one focus, one goal for these efforts: To make Microsoft a more streamlined, a more organized company, which can make quick and smart decisions to get it back into the game.
