A good one! Poor Prince! He continues to be the butt of jokes!!

nothing objectionable in the address per se.

He himself said that he a had a hidden motive -namely check how internet has penetrated and whether he could reach the student population all over india

He tried to make Teachers day into student day

besides , due to language ,he could not reach the children in tamilnadu . schools in state board schools were not reachable .only CBSE schools linked up.

In many municipal schools , due to power cuts and rain, students could not hear him

those children who heard him liked him

some could not get transport home in chartered buses in delhi as it clashed with office goers using the same transport

could have been better planned

At least the engineered controversies have vanished.

C1: Compulsory for all students in all schools; all schools must beg or borrow and provide tv, cable/dth connection, UPS and interactive environment.

All channels and print media were talking of HRD ministry's circular to all schools, but not one showed the original circular (to my knowledge); all were showing local education board's communication selectively. Ministry clarified that there was no compulsion and participation was voluntary. Mamata and Jaya governments refused to comply and no action was taken against them, the government schools in bengal and tamilnadu were the losers. Participation from private schools from all over the country (leh, manipur, tiruvanandapuram) was beyond expectation and students enjoyed it.

C2: There was hue and cry from karuna and secular media that renaming teachers' day as gurutsav is nothing but brahmin effect, hindutva imposition and indoctrination. HRD minister's clarification that gurutsav was an essay competition for all indian students in all indian languages. In the HRD website for gurutsav competition, in the tamil page on instructions for the competition, the heading was "asiriyar dinam". Media in its haste to blame modi misrepresent issues, and do not correct when pointed out. They just get into 'ignore' mode and behave as if it never happened. English media has lost all credibility and it is guided and funded by dubious sources.

I don't think it does matter how many kids actually sat and heard/ viewed or whether it was mandatory etc. I did a thorough study on the HRD diktat on this subject and I couldn't find anything objectionable (the whole affair was media raked up !!). End of the day, what's the intent and what was PM trying to convey - the crucial and important point is getting diluted. Children are the catalyst for change (and they are the ones who can change). Two quote a couple of examples. If I brake my car over zebra crossing in a signal and my daugther whisper "APPA WHAT R U DOING", I will think twice before repeating this whether she is with me in the car or not. Let a kid ask their parents on a election day " aren't you going and casting your vote", the parent will run to the booth... Two things : (1) the power of message coming from children r more powerful than any amount of broadcast or education by way of public notices (2) FEAR. Tomorrow if you want to teach a moral to your kid, you will have a fear that the kid may bite back !!! (end of the day FEAR OF MOTHER OF MORALITY). Let the kid take out the electricity bill in a dinner table and look at the parents and ask them, is there is any way we can reduce this bill ? You have a wonderful society developing... The education system has to to change - today it is simple imparting of information. Schools should impart knowledge, teaching should be a profession and not to be treated as occupation. QUITE POWERFUL DELIVERY OF MESSAGE I should say. I don't think anyone should look at Narendra Modi differently - if you ask me, he is just doing the duty of what is expected of a Prime Minister as head of State... The Secular Indians are the only set of people who look at it differently - for this I will say PLEASE LOOK BACK and one will realise how bad the Manmohan Singh was. He set the bar unnaturally low - spineless, diminished the statuture of PM post so when someone is standing tall, one may get a feeling that HE IS OVERDOING.... I trust he continue this streak to change this country and I am hopeful...
