For those in Kovai, some of you may know S.S. Jayalakshmi. Starting from less than scratch, she devoted her life to handicapped kids particularly those without means. It was a type of vocation, not found anywhere else in my family.

Whenever she used to visit us in Madras, I was always overcome by her sense of humanity.

Like to all of us eventually, the Man Upstairs came calling. And she accompanied him, leaving many in Kovai to mourn her departure.

Dear Kunjuppu Sir,

Condolences to you. You should be proud to have such an aunt. Generally, when a lady gets married and has kids, she will devote
her life only for her family. It is so great to serve the down trodden, physically challenged kids. May her noble soul rest in peace. :pray2:

Dear Sri Kunjuppu,

I know Jayalakshmi's family well since we lived in the same street, when we were young. Her father Sri Subbarama Iyer was a well known Head Master of City Municipal High School, Coimbatore. Her mother was a personal friend of my mother. Jayam's brother S.S. Easwaramurthy (Vice President,Corporate, MICO-Bosch) was a good friend and class-mate in College.. Easwaramurthy passed away on 4th January 2013 after a brief illness. When I contacted his family to convey my condolences, I came to know about the passing away of Jayam. It was a double tragedy for the family.
In the death of Jayam Coimbatore has lost a pioneer in educational care for the children of special needs. She was a great lady with determination to help the children in need. The institution started by her will continue to do the service left by her.

Regards,
Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

Dear Brahmanyan,

Thank You for the note. Yes Nadhu (that is how we called Easwaramurthy) passed away almost hand in hand with his sister.

We were all taken by surprise, at the double demise.

Greetings.

Sri. Kunjuppu, kindly accept my condolences.

An inspiring lady. It must be a great loss for the vulnerable persons.

I only dream to help the community like this; but this lady could actually do it! I am very inspired. May her rest in peace.

Dear Sri Kunjuppu:

Sincere condolences on the loss of your aunt. It is really inspiring to read about this benevolent lady’s selfless service towards educational care for the children of special needs.

Dear Kunjuppu,

I empathize with you. Mrs Jayalakshmi was my neighbour. When I was in my teens, I used to play verandah cricket with her sons, on the verandah of their house in Iyer Colony. Perhaps you and I have met in Mrs Jayalakshmi's house. She would refer to me as Mahadeva Iyer pillai.

Regards,
Iyer
