When I saw my younger sister Raji Ram (I am Rajakumar Ramachary) Payanak kavidhaikkural (குறள்) I rewound year 1978 wherein I was writing to my family and to my friends in the same form but in English. I wrote this for my daughter when she was born and practiced it for my sister's daughter and my son; Now the same I am continuing with my grand son.
When I took him in my hand in Belgium hospital I fist talked to him this first word. The Pranava Mantra ஓம். which I repeated whenever I want to draw his attention now (when we are talking through Google talk or Skype). Whatever lullaby I wrote for my daughter, son, niece I am repeating the same for my grand son (even through google talk/skype). Since I am not very much after money (even now I am after money) now I am paying more attention even for his small development day by day and he will be stepping on his first year on 27th April. Every day movement I am watching and observing, passing comments and discussing with my wife about that which I doubt very much whether I did the same for my daughter and son (I doubt, probabbly I was afer money, money, money)
The Lullaby in sourashtra is
Injee Injee Moreh Nanna Devu
Ponji Kelle Thoo Churumu
Kai Paje Sangi Moreh Jolu
Aisthuya Godayaa
Ruppa yaa Sornuyaa
Kai paje sangi moreh jolu
Chukka Chukka Sogan Dholo Thogo
Jukku Jukku Hongu Mogo
Injee Moreh Nann Devu
Sleep Sleep My Little God
Lie Down Fast
What do you want tell me
Elephants or Horses
Gold or Silver
What do you want tell me
Starts Stars like eyes yours
More More Sleepy I feel
Sleep Sleep My Little God.
The funny thing is that my grand son goes to sleep with this(but my daughter, son and niece when they were almost in drowsy condition in 1985, 1989 they will be wide awake with this lullaby they will expect me to repeat this again). Nowadays my grandson immediately lifts his head searches for me for the voice. Like that I can write many of my observations of my grandson. But I am sure every one of us as grand parents will be having lots of thing for sharing. This is the basic reason why in our society we had a big family starting from grand or even great grand parents uncle/aunty living together. Now with this nuclear concept of family those values are slowly fading into oblivion.
