Hear the following same song by 2 differnt artists

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k26X256O0do

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y5cqgg-M3Q

In which Raga Thiagraja created it originally?

This is differnt song by Neyveli I think it perfectly matches with Thiagraja Krithi rendered by Sankaranaryanan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZQI6EdKIBk

But raga named is different!!

Why this anomolies in the names of rgas involved Sudha Hindolam Hindolam and Varamu?

I am sure the game will be made more confusing or interesting by Dikshidhar calling it by differmt name ! - Has he differnt names for these ragas?

In which Raga Saint created that song?

Dear Prof. M S K,

Thanks for giving the link for my post about these rAgams.

I noticed the error in my post only now! It is the Dha which differs and not Ni. :)

Sorry for that mistake in the earlier post.

Now link for M S amma's song does not work. Here is the link which works:

M S S - Manaduloni - Varamu

J J Ji,

No added confusion by Sri. Dikshithar. See the lyrics of NeerajAkshi in HindhOLam:

''nIrajAkSi kAmAkSi

Abstracted from: Compositions of Muddusvami Dikshitar by Sangeetha Kalanidhi T. K. Govinda Rao, published in Chennai 1997 (No. 123).

Raga: hindOLam / Tala: rUpakam

P: nIrajAkSi kAmAkSi nIrada cikurE tripurE

A: shAradA ramA nayanE sArasa candrAnanE vArijapAdE varadE tAraya mAm tatvapadE

C: gaurI
hindOLa dyuti hIramaNimayAbharaNE

shauri viriHnci vinuta shiva shaktimaya navAvaraNE

nArImaNyAdyarccita nava nAdAntah karaNE

sUrijana samsEvita sundara guruguha karaNE''

Probably Chittoor Subramania Pillai found the rAgam more fascinating by changing D1 of HindhOLam to D2 and named it Suddha HindOLam.

Some artists follow his way of singing. Others stick to the original HindhOLam for the song 'ManasulOni' by Saint Thyagaraja.

Wonder who changed the name to Varamu!!

Let us enjoy the rendition of Priya sisters:

LathAngi and VAchaspathi are different J J Ji.

LathAngi: 63rd mELa rAgam

VAchaspathi: 64th mELa rAgam

300px-Vachaspati_scale.svg.png

At times, musicians change the original rAgam and sing in another one and it gets 'established'. :thumb:

BTW, do you know that the original 'AbEri' (NagumOmu) has suddha daivadham (Dha1)?

'Piththan endrAlum avan pEyan endrAlum' sung by Smt. Sudha is set to traditional AbEri.

But Dha1 changed to Dha2 and every musician sings 'modern' AbEri as AbEri! :)

Is thia acceeptable ! Right tribute to the composer? Should you not strictly stick to letter and (Spirit) ragasudarasam of the original composition?

There was huge hue and cry when Illaya raja did that and established the song!
