Namaste,

Yesterday I was reading about Cyber bullying and I became increasingly aware of how many children are exposed to it. Various modern media such as facebook, various cyber fora including 'Techie forums' and also Cell phones are used by cyber bullies to stalk and prey upon their victims.

At the days I grew up, there were no personal computers. Then came a time period people started buying and using personal computers, and then dawned the cursed day cyber forums became available to one and all.

One can resist almost anything, but once you fall prey to the trap of participating in cyber forums, it acts like a vampire sucking away all your time, unless you have the willpower of someone like Hanuman ji in resisting the temptation to participate!

There have been many incidents of cyber bullying reported, if you just care to browse/google it up. For some, it gets way too personal as they do not have the sufficient emotional resilience it takes to handle away a bully and fall victim to constant harassment. The consequences can be quite detrimental: you can lose your whole day fighting a cyber bully just to prove your innocence, resulting in lost workdays, loss of mental peace, emotional torture/imbalance and thus many, many torturous hours.

Some cases of cyber bullying can be reported to the police, but not all. Definitely every forum is moderated, but one cannot ensure moderation always works for various reasons. For one, in a scenario such as "I shout/You shout" the eventual end-result is utter chaos and no one knows for sure who started it and who is the victim.

In such a situation, it becomes absolutely imperative that every parent stands guard of their child's computer usage and makes sure they do not, for any reason, become member of a cyber forum! This is serious - google says there have been instances of suicidal tendencies as a result of cyber bullying.

Therefore, parents, be on the alert! Help your child grow to be a balanced, mature and lovable person who is devoid of unnecessary guilt, remorse or shame and help him/her not lose valuable time fighting a cyber bully!

Take charge, today!

The sanjivini mantra is " be in touch with your children. Be talking with them a lot. Be aware of their turmoils-and help in time."

I would modify that to keep talking to them while taking them out regularly within the city ( not just malls ,fast food and cinema ) in which you live and also to other cities and towns in your country to show various things interesting happening beyond that boring routine of house to school and back . This real time experience will awaken in them a curiosity for real life learning and once that curiosity is aroused they will be more intersted in such form of outside learning and not just pure cereberal learning and cereberal stimulation that is offered by the Internet . If you talk to them just like that they will get bored and will choose to talk to their friend on FB .But if you talk to them while taking them out they will be more comfortable in opening themselves to you regualrly .
In today's context I know it is a big challenge for parents to keep their kids occupied by taking them out regularly as both the couples are working and hence have less free time for these sort of things and the only outlet they have is to take them to the Malls /Cinema during the weekends for relaxation .

Forget Children ,even many middle aged and old age people are getting hooked on to the Internet and Forums as they have spent theiir major life only in their apartmet and in the office space and do not feel that there is a world beyond these 2 places except for the cyber world and get hooked on to the cyber world .
