Most of the small towns and cities do not have enough resources to have a south and North Indian Temple, and more over the temple also acts as civic and cultural centers. So all kinds of events takes place. I just wanted to show our diversity here in USA back to people in India.

So some times when I have clash with Sarangji, he should understand that culture is not frozen in time or place. Culture is fluid and keeps changing.

No issue Ganesh Sir! But this movie just after SivarAthri made me giggle!! :)

I am sure many will not like the movie like Nadigar Thilakam's 'ThiruviLaiyAdal'!! :D

LOL!

Movie night?

That too right after Shivaratri?

I find it weird..why watch a movie unrelated to Shivaratri?

So right after a Bhajan there is Bhojan for senses!LOL

The problem is Hinduism is not an organized religion like Abrahamic Religions. Refinement of Hinduism is a need of the hour.

In days of yore too the temple was the centre of worship, cultural activities - bhajans, dance, drama, lectures on religious and moral topics, hospital and social meeting place. The temple did utilise the services of a large variety of professional, artisans and commoners.

There was a flourishing chikistashala in the srirangam temple, near danvantri sannadi.

Hope indian and pio reformists will be able to differentiate between core culture and peripheral culture.

varnasrama dharma is core culture of sanatana dharma and no religious leader or social activists like gandhi or modern religious pant heads will even try to dismantle.

Waxing and waning is natural, but equilibrium will be maintained.

in bangalore in early sixties , films would be screened in theatres in majestic area with midnight shows. the whole area would have a festival atmosphere for the whole night

Vaidheekam on Shivaraathri and laukeekam on the following raathri! :peace:

But, Renu, the cost of dinner reminds me of 'ammA uNavagam' in Sing. Chennai. :)

Dear RR ji,

Actually we can screen some movie about Lord Vishnu the next day and call the Vaishnavas to join in the post Shivaratri bash!

You have to give the answer to my Q, Prasad Sir!

Do all the PIO in your place know Hindi?? :)
95% understand Hindi, another 3% tolerate it.
But we have had to bribe the devotees with free food in the past, at least now we are able to offset the cast.

In a place called Lemont, the Siva temple is in a far corner, almost as if it's part of the parking lot. Not to mention it is eerily silent.

In contrast, the Vaishnavite portion is always bubbling with activity. Although I do not like the Bollywood song and dance performed by people in many functions held in temples across the US nowadays, wearing backless dresses. The cafeteria is also in the Vaishnavite precincts. This will give a better picture of the Great Divide among Indians even outside of India- Our Priests .

here ganesha is the compromise god for both the brahmin communities ,we have two in east delhi alone catering to both sects.

This is surprising...Vinayaka being worshipped by the Vaishnavas? It is only Sriman Narayanan who is considered as the only Purushottaman who is worshipped

Further, Vishwak sena as commander of Vishnu is given a position similar to Vinayaka as destroyer of difficulties by Vaishnavites

A true Vaishnava would be horrified. That is almost Blaspheme.
We have discussed this before. Thubukai alvar is the son of Vesvaksena, the commander of Vishnu's army. Some vaisnava temple have this elephant headed person with namam, but they do not do archana to that statue. According to Sangomji, it is almost to insult Ganesh.

to satisfy the vaishnavites ,they also have navagrahas . vaishnavites always have a choice of guruvayurappan clone in east delhi. but patronised more by malayalees.alterntive is to go 15 kilometres to south delhi for venkateswara temple and vaikuntanather temple. the choice is between distant vaishnavite God or ganapthy and navagraha at doorstep

Vinayakarukum namatha sathitangala.. sweet! I visited a temple in Bangalore where Ganesha is totally obese and growing horizontally, apparently. It was almost funny watching the priests trying to do archana to His massive frame.
