Nightmare in parliament street

This was the cover story on INDIA TODAY issue dated 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] March 2014 about the 15[SUP]th[/SUP] Lok Sabha.

The 15[SUP]th[/SUP] Lok Sabha majestically commenced its journey with slogans of ‘Singh is King’, a popular Bollywood number those days.

The said edition of INDIA TODAY had the following to say about the 15[SUP]th[/SUP] Lok Sabha:

  • The Worst Five Years in History – Rs 25 LAKH spent every minute per SESSION

  • Least Productive – Sat only for 63% of Allotted Time

  • Most Unfinished Work – 74 Pending Bills

  • Most Expensive – Rs 245 Crore annually on Salaries

  • Least Time on Legislation

  • Fewest Bills Passed

  • Less Debate than ever before

  • Most Disruptions

Who is responsible for the above?

Is MMS to be blamed?

when economy gets bad and governance options reduce, there is no sense in passing more legislation. what happened in 2008 along with scams made the govt wary of taking any decisions. govt could not ride it out. but in retrospect ,india did better than most world economies.we have a basic economic strength based on agriculture and our skilled manpower can contribute quite a bit. even if our legislatures are closed for a year or two,may not matter much. india will run on its own steam.as pranab mukerji once said ,thruout seventies and early eifghties ,inflation was 12-14percent and growth 4 percent. indians were not exactly eating lizards then

hi

i thought something confused in the heading of the thread....i dont think so parliament is not in parliament street....

i thought some thing happened in parliament street in delhi...

Who is responsible for the above?

It is simple. General public are responsible. Some are lured to freebies and subsidies. Some are lured to caste affiliations. More fall prey to tall promises of politicians. Honest and upright don’t come to politics. While a section of poor are starving, food is wasted on occasions, Precious lives are lost by accidents everyday cos of throwing traffic rules to the wind.......etc...etc.... We are paying the heavy penalty.

[FONT=&quot]How MPs misuse their MPLADS funds[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]
Local Area Development Scheme Fund, which was launched some 20 years ago i.e. in 1993 with rupees one crore per M.P. has now been raised to rupees five crores and they welcome this.

[FONT=&quot]
How many M.Ps made best use of this scheme for the benefit of public to whom it is intended and who pay tax directly and indirectly….???

MPs are peoples representatives. these funds are a pittance as compared to the net worth of MPs. do you have any idea how much each MP spends on his election.he has to get something back within five years to stay afloat. in any implementation ,the rules of audit are tough . even the cleanest of politician will fail the test of audit. there will always be leakages. you know in PDS tamil nadu has less than 25percent leakage and is considered best along with some states of east india. in UP,bihar it is more than 50percent. MNRega also has leakages, yet some percolation to beneficiaries does talk place.mnrega and farmer loan write off brought congress back to power in 2009.
when election comes, politicians reduce their loot and pass on freebies to poor[ all normal freebies with liquor and currency] and middle class[all DA raises, pay commission, edu loan moratarium etc] and reduce what they take out of treasury. in bihar successive CMs have been drawing money out of treasury out of budget for animal husbandry running into hundreds of crores. politicians give away natural resources, spectrum to capitalists for a song. .
baloo ji we are simple people we think of a couple of crores . crores have become like 10 rupee notes. we are unable to imagine the rot that has set in . now you know why delhi people voted for AAP. the simple promise of change and corruption free india was a very big attraction for all.

Krish Ji,

Politicians, be it is MP/MLA, believe, that if they spend more money, they can come to power. Who is responsible for this….?

Regarding their wealth, the following article published in economic times some time back, throws more light on the subject.

The poor rich Indian MPs

MPs in general are rich, endowed by flourishing business interests or hereditary handovers. The Association for Democratic Reforms, an NGO that works towards strengthening democracy and governance, says there are 315 crorepatis — persons whose net worth exceeds Rs 1 crore — in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Further, the average asset holding of the members of the Lower House is Rs 5.33 crore. Mind you, this is just the calculation based on disclosed assets, which are often not exhaustive —or even, the colour of the majority of assets — that MPs own. Whatever the party or state, barring some exceptions, the prevalence of wealth among MPs is universal.

I am aware of the criminality of the politician folk. the cases of many of them are serious, murder, rape and the like
these politicians think they can get away with the way the judicial system functions.now supreme court has mandated day to day trial with 1 year limit for politicians
the politicians will think of someway to circumvent it.
many go upto end of life with these cases.some unlucky to get convicted spending time in jail live like maharajas inside jail with home cooked food,TV and other facilities. one bihar politician serving a life sentence released his second book of poems . another wrote his auto biography.
i am sure criminality will not harm their political careers much.
previously politicians patronised criminal elements. now criminals themselves contest elections.why have middle men ?

the couple of crores mentioned are their declared assets. their actual worth is in crores.
do you kow some MPs with real estate interests have assets in range of a few hundred crores. real estate reddy barons have looted the public sector banks of several thousand crores and made them NPAs. they cannot be touched because of political clout
once they are in ruling party ,their asset values as declared have tripled in last five years
people like mallya owe thousands of crores which cannot be recovered . they have not paid paid their employees and own IPL teams. yuvraj singh was bought for 14 crores.for RCB in recent auction

So long as criminals are appointed as MP's we do not have any redemption!

Only the public has to get awake all the times to teach the rogue politicians a lesson!

I would rather love to have the Public Institutions which are supposed to be the watchdog doing that job !

But it will take a herculean effort to set the house in order!

Its the secular lady that is to be blamed. All was well till 2004 until the secular lady entered the scene.

she is thalli for telengana people and they would have statues and temples for her there. Indian assault can go and pray there . she will help tamilnadu also.
