Growing up in Gujarat post-2002 riots exposed her to religious prejudice and forced ghettoisation.

Growing up in Gujarat post-2002 riots exposed her to religious prejudice and forced ghettoisation. So when Misbah Quadri moved to Mumbai, she hoped the city, known for its cosmopolitan culture, would treat her better.
However, the 25-year-old communications professional is today knocking on the doors of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) after she was denied a flat in the city just because she is a Muslim. After a hard search, Ms. Quadri found a tidy 3-BHK apartment at Sanghvi Heights in Wadala. Her new flatmates — two working women, in their early twenties and Hindu — found her on Facebook.
However, a day before Ms. Quadri was to shift, the apartment’s broker warned that the housing society did not accept Muslim tenants. Even if something worked out, the broker told her, she would have to sign a “no-objection certificate” declaring that if she faced any harassment from her neighbours because of her religion, the builder, the owner and the broker “would not be legally responsible.” She was also asked to submit her resume. Though she disagreed with the terms, she moved in because the notice period at her previous flat expired and her flatmates supported her and she hoped for a compromise later.
But within a week, the agent contacted her again. “He threatened to call the cops and throw me out of the flat. It got very ugly.” When she approached the representative of the builder, she was told that it was “a policy” of the company not to have Muslim tenants. She was then served an ultimatum to vacate the house. Ultimately, she was forced to leave the flat. Incidentally, the other women had to pay a price for sheltering a Muslim; they have vacated the house unwillingly.

No flat for her in Mumbai because she is Muslim - The Hindu

Is this free India? Free for some and not for others. Where does the discrimination stops? What if the majority denies the basic rights to minority, what should they do? Where will they go?
I am against special privileges, and special personal laws, but at the same time I expect India is for all Indians till the constitution is changed.

I am against special privileges, and special personal laws, but at the same time I expect India is for all Indians till the constitution is changed.

One more opportunity for a copy pasting enthusiast. As it comes from The Hindu, I would even doubt the veracity of this news. Accepting that it is true, Why should I go and bang my head with a building society which has its own 10th century prejudices?. Mumbai is a vast city and it is not just this Wadala housing society. Housing societies in Mumbai are cooperative societies having their own byelaws. Many of them have preferences built into these byelaws. I lived in a society which did not allow two luxuries-having pets and cooking non vegetarian stuff. A non-veg gourmet could have gone and complained to the human rights organization that he was being denied his basic right.

It has become fashinable these days to pick up an isolated event and cry foul that India is denying equal opportunities to minorities. Many minority community friends that I have honestly admitted that they are lucky to live in India where they are treated well. They have no fear of the majority ever overwhelming them. Go and ask this question to any other minority in any other country and the answer you get will be revealing.

We have the recorded history of a major religious head coming to India as a guest and advising his followers that there is scope for a harvest of souls in India and that the herd needs more sheeps from India. And we honoured him as our respected guest.

Mumbai is a very large city and there are many housing societies in which minorities are not discriminated against. Ms. Quadri could have gone and lived with her friends in any of them. But there are also people who suffer from victimhood disease and they have their own crowd of cheering fans ever to goad them on to bang their heads against stonewalls of exclusivism. LOL.

Yes, it is free india. One has the freedom to choose or reject. The girl should have taken her two friends to a mumbra accommodation. The original constitution is very clear, only the state must not differentiate on basis of religion for living, not everything. A posh muslim society in delhi has advertised - only muslims allowed.

[h=2]No flat for her in Mumbai because she is Muslim[/h]
Another hit job by the media now getting exposed. People who rush to post sensational false news must wait for the dust to settle, and foul smoke to clear.

1. The lady is an intruder in the flat, not a valid tenant who completed all the formalities applicable.
2. There are two muslim families who have rented flats.
3. Society's secretary has said, the society had no role, and the fight is between the intruder and the broker/agent/owner. She refused to abide by the process and refused to pay.
4. She is an AAP activist from gujarat and a modi hater; and has contacts with congress politicians.
5. She is a journalist and not a model, and has lived in mumbai for 5 years.
6. She is an atheist and drinks vodka.
7. The english tv media refused to send reporters to interview the muslim tenants in the building or the two hindu girls, because they knew the outcome.
8. Her brother too is an AAP activist.

Since truth is pouring out of SM, the cagey MSM has to swallow shame and lie low. Police must question her and find out who planned the abortive hit job. The two hindu girls who gave her shelter are too homeless now.

A week or so back there was a big news that a Muslim boy was denied a job becasue he was a Muslim and now the big news that a Muslim women is denied an apartment . In both these cases I want the law to take its own course but I fear whether these people are deliberately playing the Muslim Card to attract attention and to discredt Modi . It is like this - I know for sure that a prominent Hindu Shop /Office does not hire muslims and I being a Muslim deliberately apply for it knowing that my application will be rejected on religious grounds and then with the rejected application I bring in Media attention to myself . I do not know whether the boy in question did such a thing either by himself or by being urged by other anti Modi forces to do the same . I am no die hard fan of Modi but I suspect that some of these actions are being delibereatly done to discredit Modi and create fear in the minds of the Muslims and this is like adding fuel to the fire to the already stupid staments that are being let out by some of Modi's own partymen and ministers .
Anyway as I said let the law take its own course in these 2 issues and let the Media also dig deeply in to this issue instead of blindly sensationalizing the same .

In case of krishna diamond exports too, the company has no written policy and employs many muslims. How can a trainee send a rejection letter to an applicant within 20 minutes without even consulting her immediate boss. It is said that the two were classmates and the intern is not contacted by anybody. The boy has the support of a former NCP minister and gloating in the publicity he got. No respectable organization will now employ him.

Even if the investigation is completed, the outcome will be ignored by the media as the accused is innocent and the victim is guilty.

Recent reports about some Muslim families and individuals being denied housing accommodation or not being allowed to buy apartments in Indian cities point to an endemic issue of urban bias. While discrimination and biases of various kinds are common in urban sprawls across the world, there is something systemic about the denial of housing to Muslims in Indian cities. Surveys have pointed to various forms of bias, where residents display an aversion to those belonging to other castes and religions being in their neighbourhood. Neither access to education nor economic betterment has mitigated the problem of social bias. The sad reality in the city of Mumbai in particular has been that more than two decades since the 1992-93 communal riots, discrimination remains entrenched; indeed, it is today open and unchecked. Communities such as Dalits also encounter biases when they seek housing, but Muslims are an “easy target” because their names often point to their identity. Even online websites have seen home-sellers and owners openly denying houses to Muslims and people from certain other communities, before outrage against the practice got some websites to announce non-discriminatory policies on listings.
Legally speaking, this is a difficult issue to tackle. In the case of public housing, there cannot be any discrimination, and any form of bias in renting out or selling houses is illegal. But in the case of the private and cooperative housing market, the issue is more complicated. There are several housing colonies that are exclusive if not exclusionary to particular communities. These restrict residents to a particular community on the basis of their right to freedom of association, which was endorsed by the Supreme Court in Zoroastrian Co-operative Housing Society Limited v. District Registrar Co-operative Societies (2005). Yet, the Supreme Court has over the years developed a fairly comprehensive jurisprudence that regulates relations between “private parties” based on constitutional principles and fundamental rights. This could legally provide a basis for non-discrimination on matters related to housing. Judicial interventions apart, legislative action is required to address such acts of discrimination. The Rajindar Sachar Committee in its recommendations in 2005 sought the setting up of an Equal Opportunity Commission to provide a legal mechanism to address complaints related to discrimination in matters such as housing. Towards the fag end of its tenure the UPA government discussed the setting up of such a Commission, but nothing came of it. It is time to revisit the issue and implement this legislatively.

Reports about Muslims not given accomodation in Indian cities - The Hindu

It is out, the lady has lied and the media has sensationalized a non event. Some english channels have apologized; three newspapers have published a detailed report. This is the time to hit the media on the head and force it to pay damages to all affected. Mount road hindu which broke the report is still in the ignorance mode.

For a change they and their followers can go after these;

Ballabhgarh Communal Tension: Homes torched, 150 Muslims seek shelter at a Haryana police station - See more at: Ballabhgarh Communal Tension: Homes torched, 150 Muslims seek shelter at a Haryana police station | The Indian Express
It’s almost midnight but sleep doesn’t come easy to 150 Muslims at the Ballabhgarh City police station. Their homes burnt, their neighbours now foes, they have nowhere to go. The police station is the only shelter for these residents of Atali, a village in Ballabhgarh roiled by communal violence.
The violence in Atali began Monday evening, the flashpoint of a five-year dispute over the construction of a mosque. Adjacent to a temple, the mosque was torched and the Muslims of the village fled. They have since been camping at the police station.
One tent, four desert coolers, one carpet and two porta cabins — that’s the sum total of the facilities made available to them.

That girl will not easily get accommodation in a muslim society too for various reasons, that is what many have said in twitter. Anyway, the landlord or a private employer must gave the freedom to decide who is eligible for his patronage, tenant or employee. He too has his fundamental right.

There is a pattern in the media taking these issues one after the other and embellishing it with lies, biased reporting, and venom. They get exposed, truth comed out, and they move on to another lie as if the previous incident never happened. It was attack on churches, denial of job as a policy, driven out of accommodation, and now IITM.

Kashmiri Pandits are thrown out of their home base - Kashmir and are now living as refugees in lakhs in Delhi and nearby areas. Why no mention of this in Newspapers and Social Media whereas a single isolated incident is highlighted. Is it because our Constitution guarantees rights only for Minorities? If so, is there any provision to convert all Indians as Minorities so that the whole of India can have the same rule for all citizens. - K.A.

It was attack on churches, denial of job as a policy, driven out of accommodation, and now IITM.

Again this IITM incident sounds fishy especially only yesterday Rahul Gandhi told in a Youth Congress Convention that Congress must fight against so called RSS influence in Educational Institutions and today suddenly Youth Congress people organizing a big protest outside Smrithti Irani's HRD Office and people like Kushboo are coming on TV and giving their Opinion on this IIT-M controvesry . Were they aware of this before hand ? It seems like a well Organized drama . Usually in these sort of Banning Ambedkar-Periyar Clubs etc it is the DK , DMK Party that comes in forefront for agitation but here it seems the Delhi Youth Wing Congress and a dying Tamill Nadu Congress was well prepared before hand in this . Something fishy here . Was it a joint operation by the DK,DMK ,Congress in collusion with the Ambedkar-Periyar Club there to first provoke IIT by organizing an activity that they very well know will be questioned and then when action was taken they cry foul .

I have nothing against these Ambedkar-Periyar Clubs/Study Circles and they have the right to free speech and expression only that they follow the basic norms to maintained when expressing their views amd let there be a propery enquiry in to this whole incident and let the views of everyone involved in this be taken into account .But I sense something fishy here and I hope some sections of the Media dig deeper in to these sort of sensational news that seems to be making headlines time and again .

Also Modi and the BJP top brass must see to it that their senior leaders in the Govt ,Party and also in their supportion Organizations ( like VHP , RSS etc ) do not let out some idiotic statements that give lot of fuel to the anti Modi forces to further discredit the Government through these sort of sensational news . Let the focus be on Development and Development alone and that is what Modi was elected for and that is where people want results to be seen and not to be diverted in these sort of sensational news that gives more energy to the likes of Arnab Goswami and other TV News anchors to keep shouting the whole day and spoling everyone's time and energy and diluting the task for which Modi was elected .

Enormous amount of foreign money to India from religious organizations (Evangelical Christians, Islam etc. to name a few) are the root cause for so called media 'bias'. There may be real incidents of discrimination of individuals that should be dealt with and all Indians do want justice.

But the media is owned by few powerful people in the world who are controlled by money interests which talks.

If there is an organization in India that is independent & not connected to any existing groups, funded by donations only and reports on media bias, that will be healthy for India.

An FIR against the girl was filed by the agent on 11th April with local police, for non submission of documents, non payment and abusive behaviour. The media as usual behaves like close-eye monkey. Like some media too jumps to another sensational created scandal.

The sheer brutality of the violence that took place during rioting at Atali Village in Ballabhgarh is revealed by the FIR filed in the case. Two thousand people armed with swords, axes, spears, country-made pistols, petrol and gas cylinders had unleashed the attack. The violence lasted less than half an hour, but lives had been changed forever.
The violence in Atali began Monday evening, the flashpoint of a five-year dispute over the construction of a mosque. The mosque, adjacent to a temple, was torched and the Muslims of the village fled overnight. No arrest has been made yet. Villagers alleged that the local police, which had deployed officers at the dispute site, pulled back their men minutes before the attack.

Discrimination against flat buyers on the basis of religion, ethnicity and food preferences seems to have now become a routine habit in the financial capital of the country.
In an another incident of discrimination, a Mumbai builder allegedly refused to sell a flat to a youth for being Maharashtrian.
According to a leading daily, Vaibhav Rahate, a car dealer, went to the builder’s office at Malad on May 4, as he wanted to book a flat at Celestial Heights on SV Road for his sister. But the staff member at the developers office told him that the apartments were not for sale to 'Maharashtrians, Muslims and other non-vegetarian buyers'.
Rahate approached the Malad police who recorded his statement but did not take any action even after 25 days. But after the intervention of Congress President Sanjay Nirupam on Friday, zonal DCP Vikram Deshmane instructed the Malad cops to conduct an inquiry and file an FIR, said report.
Now, man in Mumbai denied flat for being Maharashtrian | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

Reservation in sale / occupancy of flat or house is not a new thing and not exclusive to North or West.

One of my colleagues once told me that Marwaris and Jains living in Sowcarpet, Mint, Broadway in Chennai are not preferring even Bs in their apartments, let alone other castes and religions.

Individual landlords, cohesive housing societies, private small and medium housing projects must have the freedom to choose their tenants, neighbours, and buyers. Many societies even restrict sales to ensure acceptable buyers. This is quite common and accepted practice.
