No houses on rent to Indians in Singapore

Is it racial discrimination against Indians and Chinese...Are Indians not welcome in Singapore...Reasons given in article below look silly...Is there an undercurrent of tension post the Little India riots last December?

No houses on rent for Indians in Singapore - The Times of India

Many online home rental websites in Singapore include the words "No Indians, no People's Republic of China (PRC)", which is sometimes followed by the word "sorry", leading to increasing rental discrimination in the city.

The issue appears more common with less expensive properties and on sites where content is posted directly by users, the Online Citizen reported.

The president of the Universal Society of Hinduism (USH), Rajan Zed, has called on Singapore's President Tony Tan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to put an end to the discrimination, which is becoming a rising menace.

The emergence of anti-foreigner sentiments in Singapore has become a major cause of concern, with the government constantly urging the Singaporeans to welcome expatriates and to help them integrate into the city-state's multi-cultural society.

One Indian expatriate said his agent told him that many landlords would refuse to rent flats to him because "Indians always cook smelly curries", BBC reported.

Charlene, an estate agent, said it was common for landlords not to rent houses to tenants from India or China because such tenants "are not people who are house proud".

"Many don't clean weekly, and they do heavy cooking, so dust and oil collect over the months. They may use a lot of spices that release smells people don't like," Charlene added.

Singapore is one of the ethnically most diverse nations, consisting mainly of Chinese-origin people along with Malay, Indian and other ethnic groups.

vgane ji

you only have to go to little india in singapore to see the way indians maintain their workplace[shops] and their homes nearby .in the byelanes , it is not

a pleasant sight to see littering and we have to walk covering your nose

in little india metro stations and nearby farrar road etc, there are prominent signs of no littering and also no loitering the latter not found in other stations

for the well off indian expatriates finding a flat is not an issue .

it is those with P2,P3 visas who face these issues ,

these neither clean houses or employ helps

they share their flats to cut rents

they should not be welcome with all this

even in india , people get discriminated .

how many TBs rent their flats to NBs or bachelors in chennai. giving to other religions is a big no no

even in ads for rent in this forum ,you see the preferences of TBs

why talk of singapore ignoring our actions in india.?

I think you are speaking with a 70's mindset...There are NB's even in our family flats in Chennai...Then there is another B family with a NB daughter-in-law...In Chennai these prejudices have gone away...Only condition is Veg

vganeji
Nb daughter in law is not parents choice normally and it is thrust on them by their children . but acceptance may be there in some cases

only elitist families say such things

ask any TB in nanganallur or west mambalam instead of mylopore or upmarket , you may get a different view

with more IT guys inchennai , the high paying NBs can get a flat with veg riders.

brahmins bargain and are poor spenders in chennai

they believe in simple living and believe in saving big bucks .

Krishji,

I do not want this thread to divert..However the reality is that every second TB house in Chennai has a close family member who is NB (SIL/DIL or brother/sisters kid's spouse) for marriages post 2000...In case research is done the facts will come out clearly..With this high incidence families are forced to reconcile

vgane sir
you might know better about B-NB marriages

I am northbased . i know of only TB -north indian mix

I think there is huge change taking place in choice of mates from other castes , regions and religion .

it is now more decided by children than parents in many cases

in arranged matches ,the compromises is only in sub sects or vaisnavite or saivite and opting for brahmins from other states

one has to reconcile , I suppose .

The Topic is about low status Indians live in singapore, are not following rigid rules , may be true. But after the December problem, Singapore Govt. did not loose time to take negative steps now, though situation of poorer Indians were not better before Dec 2013 ? wILL AFFLUENT iNDIANS LIVING FOR DECADES IN sINGAPORE COULD TAKE UP THE CASE & COME TO THEIR RESCUE ?
iT IS ALSO A FACT THAT WHERE EVER iNDIANS LIVE IN NOT SO GOOD POSITIONS REALLY HAVE PROBLEMS, BUT THEY MAY LACK UNITY, WHICH IS A KNOWN CURSE.
lET US WAIT & SEE ?
