Virtual Reality has been the dream for the last few decades, and none have come close to solving the puzzle. Well, except Oculus, which reinvigorated interest in the field and was leading the charge for Virtual Reality.
But Oculus, eager to make the experience as good as possible, has not yet released ts VR Headset. This has led to the arrival of competitors, which will release around the first half of 2016.
Oculus held an event today, where it gave us a look into the final revision of the Oculus Rift. It looks pretty similar to the leaks that occurred a few days earlier and is very light. It is made for you to disappear into Virtual Reality. It doesn’t have the camera like the designs in those leaks.
There are two OLED Screens in total, one for each eye, and they are seemingly perfectly optimized, leading to no judder or anything else according to Oculus.
There are inbuilt headphones for 3D Audio, but you can remove them.
Oculus is striking a partnership with Microsoft, due to which the Oculus Rift will ship with a Xbox One Controller. But that’s no way to experience Virtual Reality. Oculus has been working for years on a suitable control mechanic for Virtual Reality, and now, it is finally unveiling it.
Behold, the Oculus Touch. It is essentially the Move with a disc wrapped around it. Meaning two trigger buttons, a few face-buttons and analog sticks, enabling a more natural range of movement in Virtual Reality. Plus, in the future, it would be able to detect gestures.
The Oculus Rift will be natively supported by Windows 10, and will support Xbox One games streaming.
It is releasing in the first half of 2016.
What do you think? Can Oculus get ahead of the Vive and Sony’s Project Morpheus?
