Virtual Reality can be one of the most immersive experiences, and while we may think of Virtual Reality as trivial, it is actually computationally complex, with lots of inputs, outputs and calculations going on in order to dynamically adjust what you are seeing to your movements, in order to provide you a smooth Virtual Reality experience.
Of course, these computationally intensive tasks are just the beginning, since Virtual Reality also involves rendering high-definition 3D Environments that may prove to just be too much for your rig to handle.
This is why Oculus has detailed the recommended specifications for experiencing Virtual Reality, and the total cost of all the components in the US approaches $1000. However, if you live outside the US, you would also have to pay import duties, dragging up the cost quite a bit more.

The Oculus Rift will probably release in early 2016, and that’s why it is important to gauge the power you need to run it early on, to prevent problems later.
