Just read this op. Looks like Mr PJ has checked out. Claims based on puranic stories are dubious since it is hard to date them. Puranic stories are mythological stories often to teach something profound. Most modern so called puranic stories fail this test.

Garuda purana probably influenced by biblical descriptions of hell etc is not authentic. Yet it drives behavior of many Hindus by fear.

The first evolutionist in the world that we know is really the teacher of Sankhya philosophy. He is called Kapila Maharishi. We can say Darwin is western Kapila. Our puranic story, Vedanta philosophy ( not just sankhya) and established sciences have no conflicts ever. This cannot be said about western Philosophies and their religion as well as science. All are at odds.
