India, Indonesia and Pakistan each have more than a million children out of school, according to a UN report which said the global number of unschooled children aged 6 to 11 is still as high as 58 million, showing little overall improvement since 2007.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) report said that India had 1.4 million children out of school in 2011 but the country is among 17 other nations that have managed to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the past decade.

"Combined with Unesco's recent news that aid to education has fallen yet again, the lack of progress in reducing out of school numbers confirms our fears — there is no chance whatsoever that countries will reach the goal of universal primary education by 2015," Unesco director-general Irina Bokova said in a statement.

Pakistan had 5.4 million children out of school in 2012 while the figure for Indonesia was 1.3 million.

If we reduce population in BIMARU states from 4 to 2, this no will automatically reduce
Sir it is very easy to point the finger at some one else. We run a school in Tanjore district of TN. The government run school was a single room in the "teachers" house. Where he claimed he was teaching 150 children from KG to grade 12. When we opened the school 9 years ago the government was against it. We have about 175 kids in school now, where we provide free midday meal, computers, science education and 12 class rooms. So please don't tell me it is not your backyard too.

We can blame it on Muslims, Bihar or others, but it is still India, is it not?

I have never said that TN is a land of milk & honey..I was trying to point out the waste of precious resources in feeding the population..

See the data ...UP has the highest no of members in family ie 6..In TN it is the lowest at 4..When family size is smaller it means that girls will have better access to education...Better amenities to every one...

Let us have a uniform population policy!

Families in TN smallest, UP biggest: Census - The Times of India

Dear Prasad Sir,

You are doing an yeoman service by running this school.

You have mentioned that there was some opposition from the govt when you tried to start running this school. Would you please care to elaborate a little on this? What sort of hurdles did you have to overcome?

I presume you are running this school free of cost for poor people. How do you choose deserving candidates?

Have you encountered more obstacles in running thus school smoothly ever since the RTE act was passed?

The RTE act prevents any non-minority school from applying any kind of screening process. So I am curious how this is working for you.

Thanks .

Sir,
You give me more credit than I deserve. I am a financial contributor just like thousands of others are. It is run by our good friends.
We only hear the good news now by e-mail and when we talk with them on phone. It seems to be running smoothly. Money is still a problem as government support is minimal. They wanted the students to participate in the fees process. So it is not a free school. I do not know the screening process.
