Each community ,each family and each domain has their own set of Rules to follow and there is nothing like a common rule in any book. Even if anything is available they are not authenticated. While doing namaskarams, vadakalai people do for 4 times while thenkalai people do for 1 time only even though the deity is one and same. Similarly, tanjore clan, kancheepuram clan, and thirunelveli clan have different approach to other thamboola thattu formalities.
Be guided as your grandmother tells ; if she is not alive seek the help senior most lady in your family.( ladies are more rule observer than male members of family!!)
