An Iyengar friend of mine has married a UP Girl from Uttarkhand (Garhwal). His first wife died and he married the UP Girl as his second wife. He has a son from his first wife and he wants to perform Upanayanam for this boy from his first marriage. Can my friend perform Upanayanam for his son and do Brahmopadesam? The query is because he has married a UP girl of Rajput origin as his second wife. Will she be eligible to sit in the dais to perform the function?

This same guy has an younger brother. He has not yet undergone Upanayanam. Their father has expired. Who will perform Brahmopadesam for this younger boy if he wants to go in for Upanayanam.

Shall be gratefulf or advice.

Regards

1. The Iyengar gentleman can perform the upanayanam of his son with all the usual functions along with his wife. If his wife undergoes a Samasrayanam before the upanayanam it will be good.

2. The younger brother's upanayanam also can be done by this gentleman in his capacity as the elder brother.

This is what the Dharmasastras say.
