I heard it in a different way.  Some people were sitting around a  table

for eating and they were lean and sick.  They appeared to be very hungry.

All of them were having spoons which had very long handles and that were

fastened to  their arms and hence each one found it impossible to reach

 into the pot and take a  spoonful; because the handle was too longer than

 their arms and that they could not get  the spoons back into their mouths.
