Why do Elderly people in North India bless the newly married couple as "Ram-Sita ki jodi" inspite of the fact the duo had period of separation, abduction etc ?
Why people bless people like that? The understanding between them, the trust in each other, their qualities and so on. Sri Rama opted to have only one wife, Sita not being carried away by Ravana's wealth and so on.
There are 4 stages in the marital relationship of Sita and Sri Rama.
1. They happily lived in Ayodhya for 12 years after their marriage
2. As Sita could not think of separation from her husband, she followed him into the Forest. And, there they lived happily for 13 years in the Forest
3. After her abduction, they got separated for 11–12 months only. Thereafter they got united again.
4. After coronation of Sri Rama as the King of Kosala kingdom, they lived happily.
So except for a brief period of 11–12 months of her imprisonment in Ravana’s Lanka, Sita was never away from her husband Sri Rama.
The story of Sita’s banishment that was described in UTTARA KANDA is an interpolated story, added much later period.
The original story of Ramayana ends with the coronation of Sri Rama as the King of Kosala kingdom.
So it is apt to bless the newly married couple as "Ram-Sita ki jodi".
Just a Thought.
