Correct way of doing Gayathri japam
Using your Thumb finger to count, start from the middle line in the ring finger; proceed to the third line downwards, which makes the count 2. Move leftwards to the third line in the little finger, which totals to 3. Move upwards to the middle line and first line of little finger, which adds up to 5. Count the first line of ring, middle and index finger, respectively, which adds up to 8. Proceed downwards to the middle and bottom lines in the index fingers which brings the total to 10. Once, you reach 10, again start from the third line of the Index finger and go in reverse order all the way to the middle line of the Ring finger
The only important point is that the Japam must be counted through the lines in our fingers. There is one important point to be noted here. It is believed that the middle and bottom lines of Middle finger is called Meru. If one happens to ‘cross-over’ them, the Japam will be fruitless. So, one must be careful, so as, not to lose the benefits of the Japam by such a mistake.
Many a times we start again from the middle line in the ring finger after reaching the bottom lines in the index finger but here it is said that correct way s to count in the reverse without crossing the middle and bottom lines of middle finger
Why is it so. Can anybody explain?
Thanks and regards
