Sachin Tendulkar to be given Bharat Ratna

Why not Vishwanathan Anand too? Despite his present troubles, he was solely responsible for popularising the game in India and inspired youngsters to take up the game that resulted in many number of Grand Masters from India. He had been World Champion thrice before, a citadel no other Indian has reached so far.

I also vaguely recall having read in this Forum or in a mag or in some other website that Imran Khan, a legend in his own right in his country, built a P Re 100 cr Cancer Research Hospital out of his own money and from moneys collected through his party and through charities. Hope Imran Khan can inspire Sachin Tendulkar to do something similar.
 
Sachin's name was making rounds for the past few months. But he could not be given because the rules of the award do not allow sports persons to be considered.

The joke now is - the pm mms has taken the toughest and fastest decision in his life - trhe rules were changed, decision taken and president's signature obtained in a matter of hours. No mean achievement. Only the day before minister shukla said that sachin will be considered in the next round. But the round has got zero radius.

When there is a will, there is a way - whether 2G scam, coal scam or award race. It seems that another sportsperson's name was ahead of sachin; hope he too gets it soon.

The UPA Government was forced to act quickly because they had a fear that if they delayed then Modi would have taken the lead in announcing that if he becomes PM , he would see to it that Sachin gets Bharat Ratna at the earliest . The UPA was not too keen on giving Bharat Ratna to Sachin too early and that was why they gave him the Rajya Sabha seat as a sort of compensation but at that time Modi was not made the PM Candidate but now with things getting heated up with lot of political mudslinging and to have an earlier lead in this Bharat Ratne business ,UPA went ahead and announced Bharat Ratna for Sachin .
 
And congress will keep up the pressure on sachin to support and canvass for congress in loksabha elections next year.

Please! Please! dont politicise the awards that also the highest awards. No doubt that Sachin is eligible for Bharata Ratna. Yes, the sports persons are to be encouraged like this. They are the ambassadors of indian culture and make India shine in the international arena.

Most of these awards are given for political gains only. If you go through the list of those who got Bharat RAthna so far, how many do you think would have actually and really deserved it? I leave it to your conscience.

Why not Amitabh Bachchan? This list will go on....

Now brands for which Sachin is brand ambassador will claim that "Bharat Ratna" winner is suggesting to buy our product. What if that product is of low quality?

Isn't congress playing dirty politics?
 
So far the practice was for the award to be given to politicians only, whether they deserve it or not, if the conferment would bring political dividends for the ruling party. Now, Maharashtra has 45+ LS seats and is very crucial for Congress. By awarding B R on SRT, they hope to win 2-3 seats in Mumabi city. That is the calculation. If according to their calculation UP could give them atleast 20 seats, even now they will be ready to give BR to Amitabh and to Dhyan Chand. But they are not confident on that with the stranglehold of MSY and Mayawati.

In all these discussions, I don't know why people are forgetting MIlkha Singh?
 
Sachin deserves the award for many reasons.

1) he doned the cap at 16 yrs.
2) remained away from any controversy
3) impecable character
4) simple
5) the wealth and fame has not gone to hisohead
6) He remained focused on his commitment to cricket

CS Rao would not have got Bharat Ratna had sach

But the timing of the award dragged him to stadium of controversyf

I admire sachin for one thing. He publicaly announced he is Indian first which statement was not
liked by the late Balasaheb,thakare, Shiv sena Leader

Sachins boldness is to be noted.
 
Being Indian first is a given, whether some politician likes it or not. There is no reason to shout from rooftop.
Magnus Carlsen is going to win World Championship at the age of 19; entered the chess field at the age of 13;
Indian cricketers, generally, stay away from controversy as mega bucks are involved. Some exceptions like Sreesanth lose everything getting into controversies. The others know that.
He didn't play for the country for free. He got paid and in multi crores. Indirectly, we paid him.
I am not questioning his qualification for the BR. But my point is that are others, who are/were equally talented but never got the publicity because they did not play cricket. Of the many many crores he got out of cricket including contracts with sports goods manufacturers, brand ambassadorship for products, commercials, has he contributed anything to the country? A hospital for the underprivileged or a primary school in rural areas, an orphanage for senior citizens - some such public service would have made him and the country proud. There would have been no controversy whatever may be the timing.

There are about so many living legends like iyarkai vigyani nammalwar who is trying to rejuvenate the agriculture and make our country independent from foriegn giants like monsanto (seed sellers).
He has made several others to start agriculture using natural fertilizers and pesticides. Atleast once ina fornight you can see his article in any of the magazines.
he is trying hard to make our agriculture and villages self satisfied.
Why not bharat rathna to him. He is the worthy person.
He did not gain much popularity or money through his selfless service(Not a big time tax payer like sachin). But Sachin did. Just because he is popular and useful for politics in future should not be a reason for some thing highest like bharat rathna.
Then why not ambani, tata , birla, amitabh, sharukh... They are all business men and sachin is alike with them... Our govt should keep that in mind
