Tendulker may not be Tamil or Brahmin, but his achievement as an Indian cricketer is amazing.

Terming retiring Sachin Tendulkar's batting technique as the best in the world, legendary West Indian cricketer Brian Lara on Tuesday said if he had a son he would have asked him to learn from the videos of the Indian great to excel in the sport.
"His longevity is amazing. He started couple of years ahead of me and ended six after I retired. These 24 years are testimony to his skills, dedication and fitness level. His zeal while playing for India was simply amazing. I know he has had a tough playing for 1.3 billion people," Lara said at an event 'Salam Sachin', organised by India Today Group in honour of the legendary batsman.

Lara felt that Tendulkar deserved every bit of adulation before his final hurrah at his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium.

"The felicitations for him are much deserved. He has sacrificed a lot for the nation and dedicated his entire life to the game," Lara insisted.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has termed Sachin Tendulkar's retirement from international cricket as the "biggest" the game has ever seen, while another former great VVS Laxman feels that CAB's farewell arrangements won't cause "distraction" to him.

Asked if Tendulkar's impending retirement after two-Test series against the West Indies is the biggest farewell that the world cricket has seen, the veteran replied, "I think so. Any retirement is greeted with sadness. After November 18, there will be no Tendulkar in action. So the frenzy is understandable. He is the biggest cricketer after Sir Don Bradman and his retirement is the biggest of them all."

Thank you Sachin for the service to Cricket and India.

Dear Prasad ji,

Sachin is not a Tamil Brahmin as you rightly said but he is a Brahmin from Maharasthra (Marathi Saraswat Brahmin).

Is he/she a Brahmin or not a Brahmin, that is the question, and it is the preoccupation of all Brahmins ....

Dear Nara ji,

Even other communities have pre occupations of their own kind.

Once during a Medical Talk..a doctor brought along his Non Doctor wife( even though the talk was for Medical Professionals only..many cheap skates do this cos there is nice free food after the meetings!but now it has become strict and each guest has to show the medical ID ..so non doctors are no more allowed)

Ok this lady was a Keralite and she kept bugging me non stop during the dinner asking me if the Indian guest speakers were Malayali or not..she went on and on asking me who were the Malayali doctors in the group..till I had to excuse myself and change my seat.

Once I had the misfortune to travel with my mums friend to India..one elderly Keralite lady who also kept asking everyone seated in the plane near her if there were from Kerala.
Even when we went to the hotels in India..she went into the kitchen and wanted to know if the cook was from Kerala.

And so happened the cook was from Kerala and she started talking non stop and we had to drag her out of the kitchen.

So you see >> I think its an Indian thing yaar..to be pre occupied with one own's origin.

I was reading an article the other day that most of India's cricketers are Brahmins.

The Sydney Test Indian XI team teams consists of :

7 Brahmins
1 Jaat
1 Rajput
1 Muslim
1 Sikh

One of the reasons stated is that Cricket is a sport that does not have bodily contact with the opponent and hence many Brahmins play this sport cos purity, cleanliness and madi etc can be still maintained.
