You need to dress for the part.
If you playing King Rama, or King Lear you have to dress in that period costume. The very second day if the same actor has to play the part in lion king, he will change his costume accordingly.
No body makes a fuss or they go home.

Similarly you wear the uniform of your school, church, temple or employer mandated.

In public places where there is no known dress code you dress appropriately, unless otherwise stated specifically.

Dear Ganesh,

Do you know why ladies of all ages prefer chudidhar sets to sarees while travelling? It makes walking easier and there is

no risk of tripping down because of the saree. Actually the nine yards saree is more comfortable while walking and hence

I found the modern two piece madisAr saree. My friend said that she was comfortable wearing it till evening on a pooja day!

I wonder how these boys clad in veshti will run and catch the crowded city buses without difficulty!

P.S: :yo: to ammA for declaring chudidhar set as school uniform in Sing. Chennai! :thumb:

Dear Raji Madam,

I agree..Then the boys have to fold veshti then..

Not sure whether Amma will declare Chudidhar dress as uniform as it is considered north indian..To counter that opposition may declare a pavaadai thavani movement

If I remember correct J. ammA declared chudidhars as uniforms in schools for the convenience of the girls.
I am unable to dig out that news which appeared long back! :fish2:

BTW, pAvAdai is as troublesome as a saree while boarding a bus! :ballchain:

How come Sashi Tharoor is in the temple within a year of the death of his wife Sunanda! Is it ignorance or Don't care attitude?

Dear Sir,

Out here one who has had a death in a family is only not allowed to go to a temple for 30 days..after that there is no restriction.

True RR ji..any sort of loose pants and a top is very comfortable for travel..that is why even when I travel by plane I choose to wear a loose flowing pants with a nice top..its easier to walk and easier to climb stairs and escalators at the airport...no risk of falling or long skirt getting trapped in the escalator.

Veshti at half mast and panchakatcham are comfortable enough for the committed. Else chennai judge will not be fighting for his veshti rights. A few years ago, almost everyone attended wedding reception in pant. Now nearly half are in veshti and jibba. Pants for work and veshti for ceremonial and religious functions will be a good balance.

In the North India, Shokh Shaba is held in the local temple, where the bereaved family member hold bhajan for departed. It can be held within 3 days after the death.
When this was brought out here is USA, all the members from south were horrified. We had to educate the people that it is just a custom.

I think, after subasweekaram, temple visit is allowed. Only yatras and visit to hill temples is not permitted. With many ceremonies to be performed during the year, yatra will be out of question, in the old days.

Dear Ganesh,

Visit to temples on hillocks or mountains are only banned, I think.

On the 'Subham' day, close relatives wear new dress and visit a nearby temple.

hi

every part of india has different customs/traditions....hinduism itself has different traditions....so we can't unify into one

system/custom.....indira gandhi was not allowed in guruvayur temple.....giani zail was not allowed in thirupati..i heard that..

RRji is just super funny. I am sure the opinion of "yucks" about the topless President of India is shared by Renukaji as well.

Nope! I look at topless thopapaji maamas differently..in fact when I see them I start to wonder if they could fit into a 38D or 40D!LOL

Then I start to mentally calculate their BMI and wonder what is the visceral fat quantity etc.

My mind works a bit differently and you know the higher the body fat there is also something else to consider..well never mind!(I will be banned if I write it here)!LOL

I always :horn: against this topless attire but what is the use? Even the tambram grooms are given one

angavasthram, folded as a strip, to wear along with the panchakachcham! But the garlands cover up!

See here:

P.S: Now a days, some brides happily wear the 'barely there blouse' with the lowest possible cut at the back, to match the groom!! :D

Dear RR ji,

I have a question..in the pic above Prasanna is placing the Kum Kum on Sneha's forehead per South Indian marriage ritual.

When I got married I was wondering why the Kum Kum is placed by the groom going thru the back of the head of the bride?

Why cant he stand facing her and place it on her forehead...why rear approach?

Any idea?
