Schools begin the shift to ebooks

Soon, school children may not know the joys of playing book cricket, or doodling along the margins of a textbook for hours together, with schools slowly phasing out paper books, in classrooms and libraries, for e-alternatives.

Many schools with smart boards for the younger classes are trying to reduce the students’ backpack loads.

“Many textbooks now come with CDs, which not only have the text, but some additional material. Rather than asking students to bring their books, we show them the content on the smart boards, and they can leave their books at home,” J. Ajeeth Prasath Jain, Senior Principal, Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram said.

P. Vishnupriya from Adyar says her daughter Radhika has started grasping concepts much faster, with this form of teaching-learning. “There are a number of videos, especially for science and english, which makes it easy for my daughter to understand,” she said.

E learning facilitated by trained teachers will help the students to learn better..Rote learning has outlived...But we cannot do away with teachers...Will it help better retention?..It has to have a combination of theory & practice..Multiple references can be used for the teaching embellished with smart content
