significance of deepavali

We wear new clothes, eat sweets, greet each other and burst crackers. all these are done routinely, but the spiritual significance of the day is not highlighted or is rather forgotten. the triumph of good over evil and significance of prayer should be highlighted. Narakasura was killed and his wish that people should celebrate the day was the reason for the celebration. On this day when we take ganga snanam and wear new clothes we should also shed the evil thoughts and deeds and pray to god to reform us atleast from today. being austere and avoiding wastage of earth's resources and also trying to live in conformity with Mother Earth's rules should be the vow, so that future generations can have a better living. Happy Diwali Wishes to all.
