Silence is the Language of GOD

Dakshinamurthy is often depicted as being in the yogic state in ethereal silence transcending the truth of the Shastras with serene countenance.

Although Sri Ramana Maharshi was happy to give his verbal teachings to anyone who asked for them, he frequently pointed out that his ‘silent teachings’ were more direct and more powerful.

How can silence be so powerful?.

Silence is the most potent form of work. However vast and emphatic the sastras (scriptures) may be they fail in their effect.
Language is only a medium for communicating one’s thoughts to another. It is called in only after thoughts arise. Other thoughts arise after the "I"-thought rises and so the "I"-thought is the root of all conversation. When one remains without thinking one understands another by menas of the universal language of silence.

Silence is ever speaking. What one fails to know by conversation extending to several years can be known instantly in silence, or in front of silence.
Story of Dakshinamurti and his four disciples are a good example of this.
This is the highest and most effective language.

Sri Ramana Maharishi on Silence:

"What exists in truth is the Self alone. The self is that where there is absolutely no "I" thought. That is called Silence. The Self itself is the world; the Self itself is "I"; the Self itself is God."
"samadhi is a state of silent absorption in the Self, in God, in Nothingness of Mind itself, in Pure Silence"

Dear Shri PJ,

I have found from personal experience that silence is the most inspiring spiritual experience, especially so when the world outside itself is calmed down by the late night or early mornings.

Silence is golden, my silence is inspiring to people around me.
A story:
A DIL and MIL used to fight everyday. Finally the DIL could not take it anymore, she went to the Sadhu who used to live outside that village, and asked for his advice. The sadhu reflected on it for appropriate amount of time, and then gave this Magic wood to the DIL. Advised the DIL that she should put that magic wood in her mouth and bite on it, when ever her MIL spoke to her.
After a week the DIL was back at the ashram of that Sadhu, with full of praise for the magic wood. She declared that the fights just stopped altogether. She thanked the Sadhu and left. One of the disciple of the Sadhu wanted to know the secret, the sadhu explained that there was no magic wood. It was difficult for the DIL to talk with the wood clenched between her teeth, so there was no argument, and so no fight.

So when the Guru does not say anything the disciple has to reflect on their own.

Dear Prasad Sir,

Good story! Please read the following in lighter vein...

If both the MIL and DIL were our forum members, the magic wood would NOT have worked!!

Praying before preying?
No victim is seen! :spy:
So, it might be praying after preying! :pray2:

I want to share an interesting information. When I was in school, one gentleman gave a lecture on how to remember the correct

spellings of similar words. I remember very well one of those 'tips'. He said, 'When you surrender to the Almighty (A), we pray

holding our palms together above our head and the shape reminds the letter A. So, 'pray' has the letter 'A''.

P.S: When an animal kills a prey, the victim runs - 'EEEEEk'! So, 'prey' has 'E'! :D
