Most of us when we go back to our villages we left behind for job oppurtunities in metros and abroad, we have the experience of seeing our old houses in
dilapidated condition. Ponds dried up .Trees cut .village temple resting places for bats. Most of our old neighbours might have also deserted the place.Older
persons might have passed away and the young
also gone away for good.
This is true of most of brahmin families.
Recently I had gone to one village where my relative was doing something different.
He lived in agraharam and was a marginal farmer.
Over the years, He bought more land and livestock .
He shifted out of agraharam , built a farm house in his farm , a two storied bungalow , one floor for himself and another for his two sons who were in city in IT
companies.
He utilised their excess income to expand the farm house and land holdings.
He also has invested in drip irrigation and deepened the well ,installed pump sets for irrigation .
He employs labour ,some full and some partime to take care of the land .
He has used his contacts to build a pucca road from main highway to his farm , Got laid electric and telephone cables . He also has mobile to aid
communication.
He owns two wheeler and also a car which he uses to go to town when required.
He grows vegetables , Grains depending on the season He trades his excess grains for pulses and other items .
He gets milk from the animals he keeps and sells excess milk
He also has a Large TV set and Frig and gas connection.
He treats his guests with village hospitality with umpteen dishes made out of what he has grown
He says he has no intent of leaving his village ever.
He says sooner or later his village will get urbanised ,he can make a killing with the land he has collected over the years.
Only thing he misses are good hospitals for which he has to go to bangalore or dharmapuri.
I liked his approach to life.
Converting urban money earned by his sons to rural land and have all the conveniences of city life.
his house is closest to the smart home in a village I have come across.
