Snoring Habit.

Snoring is not a habit, but comes with age.

My wife sleeping next to me always say, you make lot of sound, snoring; but sometime I hear her snoring but if I tell her next morning she says she never snores loudly like me!!

Once I went to Sabari Malai with other devotees; about 20 devotees were sleeping in the same hall; around 11.30 pm I woke up from my sleep, and there after I could not sleep rest of the night because I was hearing different type of scary sounds from the noses of many Ayyappa Devotees.

I find even small kids snore but the sound they make may not be a disturbing one, but
adults snoring can be really scary, that too when you are alone with that snoring partner in a dark room and conscious of that snoring sound.

Doctors say that snoring is due to some blockage or obstruction in breathing, when the nasal passages are too narrow and block the air

Making a small coughing sound stops instantly the partner’s snore, but again after a few seconds it will continue.
Most singers do not snore because singing helps breathing passage to open and strong.

Many products are advertised in US, for snore free sleep, but I do not know the effectiveness of those products.

Can any one give an idea pleas

Sri. Padmanabhan, Greetings.

I don't think snoring can be eradicated. But it can be reduced by,

1. By sleeping on your side. Sideway position is a 'recovery position', allows for the airway to stay open.

2. Reducing tummy size. Have to get rid of all the tyres and tubes around the waist. The less the belly, the less the snoring. ( but I was skinny, had a 4 pack, hard & flat tummy.. still snored the whole place down!).

3. When extremely tired, we do snore. I have noticed skinny beauties snore! just too tired!

4. Make sure there are no polyps in the airway.

If everything fails..... get a CPAP machine! Snore in the face mask... nobody would know! Enjoy snoring.

P. s - This is only for the 'kudi magans' in the forum.... chances are one would snore after downing few drinks.....

Cheers!

Dear Raghy Sir,

Dear, the best way is to take rest and no medicine and instrument will help, so to say. You can observe on rest day, you have hardly any snoring sound at night because you are not tired. Body needs its overhauling for the next day to make you fit.
To reduce Stress chant some peace loving mantras and do not tax your brain every time of your working. Your boss may be keeping you on firing line and stress gets double. Secondly manual exercise also takes the toll of your body. Avoid manual work, if you want snore free night.
However, remain cool and calm through out a day may reduce your problem.

This made me laugh out loud. They sing and chant uniquely and loudly and apparently they snore uniquely and loudly too!

To answer your questing the nose strips of this type: Instant Nasal Congestion Relief - Nasal Strips | Breathe Right (and other brands of course) are said to work quite well actually and are inexpensive.

That aside let us focus on Sabari Malai though as that is where the real fun of this thread lies! Here's the Harivaasanam for you to listen to to trigger your memory ;)

hi
i like to add some more points...i met a mami...who lost her husband last yr after 57 yrs of marriage...the story goes like this...
முடியலை ........so snoring is blessing for mami/somebody too....

Sri. Manohar Kumar, greetings.

When the tongue muscle gets relaxed during our sleep, it can drop on the airway and block it completely or partially. When the airway gets covered partially the air rushes through the restricted airway produce noise anywhere between a chainsaw in action to diesel locomotive engine in motion and everything in between. The efect is the worst when one is lying on his/her back. In case someone has upper airway obstruction, snoring noise can happen even when they are drowsy or half asleep even while they are sitting down. When someone is lying on his/her side, the airway obstruction is reduced.

Expansion for CPAP is " continous positive air pressure". CPAP machine through a hudson face mask delivers an continous air pressure. That face mask is chosen for the individual to give a complete seal around face and mouth. The machine runs all through the sleeping hours ( there are machines without any noise at all) delivering an air pressure to the airway system. Due to that positive pressure, we keep the tongue from relaxing on the airway. Since the airway is kept open through the sleeping hours, snoring is greatly reduced; any such snoring can't be heard outside the sealed face mask.

Trouble is, CPAP machine is not cheap. Secondly, the air flow takes the moisture off the body. Need to hydrate one's bodyvery well while using CPAP machine. Urine output may get very low while using the CPAP machine due to the loss of fluids in the body. But can have very rested sleep.

Cheers!

Dear Raghy Sir,
Thanks for the information. I do sleep on my side only now a days to avoid the snoring, but still my son & wife complain that snoring has not reduced. Since i have high BP (take medication daily) will there be any adverse effect to my heart etc due to this snoring?
Hope i am not questioning too much and taking your time?

Cheers.

mohankumar sir,
you are not alone, i mean to say i am also like you, having BP, Sugar etc.
I do not sleep on the cot, sleep on the floor, by the side of the cot on which my wife sleeps!! ( i do not want to sleep alone in another room fearing ghosts, please you also do not sleep alone, a ghost might visit you)
I also get complaint from my wife that i make too much of noise snoring although she also snores!!
I sleep on my sideways, and rotate to sleep on the other side during the night. If i sleep facing the ceiling, probably i snore more!

Thanks for your early reply.

We think, B.P is directly related to salt and cholesterol to fat/oil. But, the most underlying cause of all health problems [incl. obesity, diabetes, brain related problems) is carbs/calories. Take more veggies (just steamed), drink lots of water (6-8 cups), thick lentil sambar, reduce the starch/rice/whea/grains to fistful (Watch the Hemamalini video!). Do yoga in the morning and sleep by 9 PM. Do 3 times sandhya under the sun (for Vitamin D)! Take raw carrots, apples, cucumbers, tomatos during snack time. Cut down all junk foods incl. caffeine. You will see a change right away in a month.
