something and nothing

It all depends on what is that "something".
For instance if something was "cancer" then that statement is not true. One would prefer nothing against Cancer.
But getting $1 is better than getting nothing, would be true (in majority of cases).

So where do we start?

This being in GD section I suppose it is not philosophy, otherwise everything is nothing and nothing is everything.

Speaking of something vs. nothing:

If you have something to say, saying nothing would be cowardice.

If you have nothing to say, saying something would be stupid.

Something is better than nothing. But nothing is not better than something. Logically some persons say if something do not produce anything it is nothing. .Many people differ in this statement..What are your views. Let us come to a definite conclusion.Proceed if you are. Interested.

Dear Sir,

Frankly speaking there is no such thing as Something or Nothing...there is only Everything!

Entire existence is Everything but it can present itself as Something or Nothing when we personalize it with desires.

For example..when we get what we desire we call it Something..when we do not get what we desire we call it Nothing.

The secret of experiencing Everything is to be sans desires...when we are without desires....Something and Nothing simply disappear and we perceive the whole picture..that is EVERYTHING.

Madam
Your statement clash with one another in your Sentences.you say in one stroke when there is no desire you call it nothing. Contrary to the above again you say when there is no desire of either something or nothing it ends with everything. How could it be. There cannot be two results. You may perceive but perceive cannot be actual.

Something is better than nothing. At the same time, nothing is better than nonsense.

Dear Sir,

It is not actually clashing..I said when we do not have desire..the perception of Something or Nothing ceases to exist and we experience Everything.

By Everything here I mean Brahman.

I was being philosophical in my reply.

Something is better than nothing. At the same time, nothing is better than nonsense.

Lets see...Nonsense means absence of sense...therefore it is also a form of Nothingess..cos only in Nothingness there is absence of Somethingness.

It is not absence of sense; but action without application of mind.

Can we take it for granted that something, nothing, and everything are all the same as everything seems to be something is actually nothing.
