Spiritualism is on the rise
MBharat Kumar Wednesday, 5 February 2014
Spiritualism is growing and lots of youngsters are deeply interested in understanding the Almighty today, said Sri Ranganatha Yateendra Mahadesikan, the 46th Seer of Sri Ahobilam Math.
Speaking to News Today, the Vaishnavite seer, who is on a visit to the city, said, 'Due to various influences, spiritualism took a back seat untill a few years ago. But now people have realised what life is and what spiritualism is'.
A profound scholar, the Swamiji, said, 'The influence of Western culture had a great impact on our dharma. Technological advancements may also have occupied our lives. But ultimately one should realise that it is spiritualism that would elevate oneself'.
The Jeeyar of Ahobilam Math, which has a long tradition and rich culture, is making his first visit to Chennai after being adorned as the head of the math.
Taking time off his busy schedule addressing devotees at Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Navaneetha Krishnan temple in Nanganallur, he said, 'it is time for all Hindus to unite. It can be achieved through spiritual and social service activities. We have channelised our efforts in bringing back to our fold who had left Hinduism for various reasons, directly or indirectly', he said and added, 'True belief and faith in our dharma will have positive effect on our lives'.
Asked about the challenges that Hinduism face today, he said, 'we need to blame ourselves for all the hurdles that come in our way. When we cannot follow the tradition and culture properly, there is no point in blaming others'.
'India is a land of temples. A visit to the place of worship is believed to elevate our thoughts. I sincerely expect the State governments to do a bit more towards temple maintenance and in propagating spiritual thoughts among the masses', he added.
Ahobilam Math has been carrying out various social services activities in the nook and corners of the country. Elaborating on that, he said, 'works are on to construct a state-of-the-art hospital and an educational institution at Ahobilam, where everything would be provided free of cost irrespective of caste or creed'.
More on the Math: Ahobilam Math is a Vaishnava religious institution established 600 years ago at Ahobilam (near Tirupathi) by Athivan Satakopa Swami (originally known as Srinivasacharya). As per legend, one of the nine Narasimhas of Ahobilam called Lord Malolan jumped into the hands of Srinivasacharya and ordered him to travel the length and breadth of the country.
