SC kills the Aadhaar card

On Monday (24 March 2014), The Supreme Court has ordered that no person shall be deprived of any benefit or services for want of the Aadhaar card and that the government shall ask its departments to issue necessary circulars making this clear. The court said any order passed by authorities to make Aadhaar mandatory shall be withdrawn immediately.

P.S. My apologies to PJ for duplication. I missed your post. I felt that this is very important for most Indians. At least my sourcing article is different (if that is any consolation). I struggled for hours and days and weeks to get one, but never could - In Chennai. Even to this day.

Nilekeni has complained to the election commission that his opponent contestant anatha kumar is spreading lies about aadhar card. Chidambaram and a few of the ministers opposed aadhar, when rampant misuse and non citizens getting card for a nominal sum. Sonia gandhis pet project has crash landed. Another big scam, money transfer through aadhar has receded.

One major concern with this project is/ was the loss of privacy and fear of data misuse by the state and people with power. Unfortunately the sycophantic indian media once again failed to bring this issue to the attention of the masses and it has taken the supreme court's intervention to set things right. Another colossal waste of tax payer's money.

If biometrics was important, Reports show that at many places, it failed
to capture biometrics because many people involved in hard labour didn't
have either usable finger prints or irises. In addition, the way the
enrolment was outsourced led to faulty processes, bribery and corruption.

As I mentioned in my OP, I still don't know why I can't get mine. Probably,
the guys were expecting bribes.

A sting operation conducted by Cobrapost has exposed how government
officials across the country have been offering to forge documents
in order to provide Aadhaar cards to illegal immigrants.

The sting operation exposes how illegal immigrants from Nepal and Bangladesh
have been offered Aadhaar cards without any proof. It also exposes MLAs and
Gazetted Officers who sign off on forged documents required to provide
Aadhaar cards. Cobrapost claims that the Aadhaar cards have been offered
to illegal immigrants without any retina or fingerprint details at a price
ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 2500.

News Detail

Dear Naina Sir,

The story is different in my sweet home! I got my card three months back and Ram was waiting for his card! After receiving my card,

I got an intimation in my mobile that my card is being processed and shall be sent in a few days! The next week, there was a similar

message for Ram's card and so we came to a conclusion that his card might have been lost in transit!

Then, an announcement came in the news dailies that those who did not receive the card can get a printout of the same from their

web site! Ram was getting ready to do so. But......... yesterday, the postman came announcing the arrival of the card, though he

had
just dropped mine in the mail box fixed on to the main gate!

Now I feel what a waste of energy and man hours of work for the Indians! :tsk:

P.S: One of our friends commented (in Bangalore) that his face in his card looked like the one which appears in the obituary column!!

Census slip is the basic data for getting Aadhar Card. Since both are employed, we were not in the house at the time of official's visit.

I have given a fresh NPR application to the Corporation Authorities during Sep 2013. I was told the officials will visit during Dec 2013; and after Pongal for subsequent reminder. Till date, no one has visited for verification.

In the meantime, Supreme Court has issued this order.

The person involved joined a political party and is contesting the election.

I am lucky! Since the operator wanted me to check all data before the final submit, I used my charm and made him take another photo, though the improvement was only marginal.

For many finger printing was a bit tedious, with 'error' returned most of the time. Accuracy and usefulness of the data collected is big question mark.

'obituary' photos too were mostly taken when the person was alive!!!

The photo appears like one especially made for obituary column because most of them are passport photos! Shall say why!

While posing for a PP photo, the cameraman commands us to took up, down, turn slightly to left or right; we bite the teeth in frustration;

and ...... there goes the CLICK!! :dizzy: . . . :photo:

It was believed that when a photo is taken life span is reduced (bit or more); I thought this 'thought' brought the deathly pale. Nothing serious.

One of my cousins working in Infosys, who had his Aadhar Card prepared and delivered to him by agents within Infosys campus itself, had lost his card. He visited their website uidai.gov.in for finding out the procedure to obtain a duplicate Aadhar for the lost one but to his dismay he found that the website never contained any information on that line. He contacted the Toll Free Number and numerous numbers on their website numerous times on various times of the day, every day of the week, but met with blank response. He emailed from his Infosys Id to the respective mail ids but there was not reply. Eventually he mailed Nandan Nilekani himself on his uidai id but no response again. He sent reminders yet met with nil response. Such is the style of functioning of a man who authored the book 'IMAGING INDIA'.

BJP's complaint:B

"Nandan Nilekeni the Bangalore South candidate will have to answer the election commission of India on charges of using the Aadhar data base to promote his campaign. The Karnataka BJP in a complaint to the election commission has stated that Nandan who headed the UID has been sending out campaign material such as pamphlets with his photograph specifically to houses whose members have been issued with an aadhar card.

The BJP asks how he managed to get the details of those issued with aadhar cards. Since he is in charge of the project he has used his position to access the data base of Bangalore south from where he is contesting, the BJP states in its complaint.

Further the BJP questions the need for Nandan to harp on the aadhar issue. Is it is private property or does the scheme belong to the government of India they ask.

The complaint which was filed a while ago will be scrutinised by the election commission following which a notice may be issued.

Nilekeni:

On Tuesday, Nandan filed a 5-point complaint saying that "vested interests" and "Ananth Kumar" had been spreading "lies and omissions" about Aadhaar.

Nilekani is upset over BJP's claims of wrongly inf lating the cost of issuing UID cars to Rs 50,000 crore when the actual cost is Rs.3,813 crore as of December 2013. Aadhaar is not proof of citizenship but is issued to anyone residing in the country, he said. "It is sad that Ananth Kumar has to resort to such desperate tactics. He is doing this, because he has no good record to defend," Nilekani said in a statement.

Nandan seems to be banking on his ex-ceo status to win the elections. but the common man, not the a/c comfort indulging IT man or Infy Techie, who goes to vote and whose vote counts, cares 2 hoots for ex-ceo status. the common man wants roti aur kapda not even makaan.

OMG! Have you not seen the face book pages, Sir?

There are update pics every hour by many members.
Of course, I heard so because I don't have a F B account! :peace:

The project was destined to fail from day one.
No one wanted the project to succeed except the middle class law abiding citizen of the urban variety.
Politicians were scared that the cat will be out of the bag because they were all caste leaders who claim respect and invincibility on the basis of inflated population figures of their caste.
Particularly states which have international borders with neighbouring countries have politicians who derive their power from foreign nationals settled in those states. For them any attempt to enumerate the Indian citizens or to identify issue ID cards of any sort to them would mean death knell to their power base.
So this was an effort which powerful interests wanted to fail and it failed.
But the Government would have learnt its lessons. Next time when such an exercise is taken up let us hope, lessons learnt would be kept in mind.
India is a Chatram where any one from anywhere in the globe can come in freely, stay here as a pest, enjoy the hospitality of the natives, subvert the country from within using the laws of this country itself (we have human rights enthusiasts with halo around them).
