Surat businessman Rajesh Juneja on Wednesday bid Rs. 1.21 crore for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's controversial pinstripe suit with his name in an ongoing auction in Surat to raise funds to clean up the Ganga.

Juneja outbid NRI Virel Choksi who quoted Rs. 1.11 crore and industrialist Suresh Aggarwal who came up with Rs. 1 crore.

The initial bids for Modi's monogrammed suit was by businessman Raju Aggarwal (Rs. 51 lakh) and Pankaj Maheswari (Rs. 11 lakh).

The proceeds from the auction of PM's gifts will be deposited with the Namami Gange (obeisance to Ganga) fund, with more such events planned in other parts of the country.

Standing on the banks of the holy river in Varanasi, which he represents in Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister had promised to clean the Ganga which successive governments have failed to do after spending hundreds of crores of rupees.

I suppose it is worthwhile to look like a buffoon for a day to clean Ganga. LOL

PM Modi's suit bid for Rs 1.11 crores

Hope the slur of the suit also vanishes with its auctioning & proceeds given to clean Ganga! NaMo will get the necessary buzz & positive vibes! Well managed!

[h=1]Modi suit bid goes up to Rs 1.11 crore [/h]February 18, 2015

A whopping Rs 1.11 crore has been bid by a Gujrati NRI in an auction today for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's controversial pinstripe monogrammed bandhgala suit that he wore during US President Barack Obama's visit to India last month.

Viral Chowksi, the NRI made the offer at the three-day auction which commenced today. Another businessman Suresh Aggarwal made an offer of Rs one crore for the suit.

"I have offered Rs.one crore. This is work of charity and when the Prime Minister is doing for a great cause like cleaning of Ganga, I decided to go ahead and buy the suit," he said.

Another bidder Raju Aggarwal offered Rs 51 lakh for the suit, saying it was for a noble cause.

The suit that created waves and kicked up a political storm will be auctioned along with 455 items that Modi had received as gifts during his nearly nine-month long tenure to generate funds for the Prime Minister's ambitious 'Clean Ganga RPT Ganga Mission'.

I suppose it is worthwhile to look like a buffoon for a day to clean Ganga.

Other manmohan, sonia, pratibha and other golliwogs have added crores worth of gifts in personal collection and bank lockers. Warped minds will see and smell only **** in every noble deed.

Even as a Surat-based businessman bid a whopping Rs 1.21 crore for prime minister Narendra Modi's pinstripe bandhgala suit, questions are being asked whether Modi took permission from the Toshakhana (treasury) to auction the suit, which was gifted to him by an NRI Gujarati businessman named Rameshkumar Bhikabhai Virani. The base price of the suit was fixed at Rs 11 lakh.

Though everybody at the PMO was tight-lipped, the code of conduct set for union ministers, including the prime minister, clearly lays out procedures for gifts received by them from foreign governments. There is, however, a strict prohibition from receiving valuable gifts from anyone other than foreign governments, except close relatives. Under Rule 4.1 (a) of Code of Conduct of Ministers, "he (the minister) or members of his family should not accept any gifts at all from any person, whom he may have official dealings: and (b) nor permit a member of his family to contract debts of a nature likely to embarrass or influence him in the discharge of his official duties."

According to Rule 4.2, the prime minister and his ministerial colleagues can receives gifts only when they are abroad or from foreign dignitaries in India. Such gifts fall into two categories, those which are symbolic in nature- like ceremonial robes, swords of honour, which can be retained by recipients; and non-symbolic gifts valued less than Rs 5,000 can be retained by the minister, after officials at Toshakhana assess their value.

"If the value of gift on assessment is found to exceed limits of Rs 5,000, the recipient has the option to purchase it from the Toshakhana (which comes under ministry of external affairs) by paying the difference between the value as assessed and Rs5,000," explained an official. The household goods such as carpets, paintings, and furniture retained by Toshakhana are then sent to Rashtrapati Bhavan, PM's House or Raj Bhavans as state property.

PMO and MEA officials are tight-lipped as to whether the PM had sent his suit to Toshakhana for assessing its value, before putting it up for auction. Further, whether this gift will be treated as a gift from a foreign dignitary, the only permissible gift the PM can accrue. There is no provision for taking gifts from other than foreign dignitaries, the officials confirm.

Wearing of a suit of Rs10 lakh was criticised not only in India, but globally... The people didn't like the way the prime minister wore the suit while meeting the president of US... So as a damage control exercise this was done by the prime minister," Maken said.

The bid value goes up! More items will now be auctioned! Brand Modi at play!

Rs 1.39 crore bid for Modi suit

February 19, 2015

And bidding for the Modi suit is still on: Mukesh Patel from Surat makes a bid for Rs 1.39 crore, the highest so far. Proceeds from this auction will go to the Namaami Gange Trust Fund.

Up for auction were also two T-shirts of Modi including one gifted to him by Cricket Australia during his visit to Australia in November. The T-shirts were among 237 clothes and textiles items put for auction. In all, 455 items that Modi had received as gifts during his nearly nine-month long tenure have been put for auction to generate funds for the PM's ambitious 'Clean Ganga Mission'.

The State should confiscate the gifts given to Sonia, Manmohan Singh and auction them! If there are no takers, let them at least get market prices! At least they will know their brand value!!

"A minister should not accept valuable gifts except from close relatives, and he or members of his family should not accept any gifts at all from any person with whom he may have official dealings," reads the code of conduct applicable to Union ministers, chief ministers as well as state ministers.

As per clause 4.2 of the code of conduct for ministers, a minister may receive gifts during his visits abroad or from foreign dignitaries in India. Such gifts fall into two categories. The first include gifts that are of symbolic nature, like a sword of honour or ceremonial robes, which can be retained by the minister. However, the second category of gifts, which are non-symbolic, may be retained only if their value is less than Rs 5,000. Gifts of a higher value must be deposited in the Toshakhana (government storehouse) or purchased by the recipient by paying the difference between value of the item as assessed by Toshakhana and Rs 5,000.

Only household gifts retained by Toshakhana such as carpets, paintings, furniture exceeding Rs 5,000 are kept in Rashtrapati Bhavan, Prime Minister's House or Raj Bhavan as State property.

Modi has regularly put to auction gifts received when he was CM of Gujarat. And the proceeds go to girls' education. Idiotic media has been trying to fault his action all these years without any murmur of success. He does his home work well. Losers must keep trying, even when success is not achievable!

Well stitched......Is he the leader of a developing country? BJP or RSS are not known for showy life. I think the ladder has been placed upside down and the BJP and RSS are the first two rungs of it. Good going indeed. Accha din agaya. Modiji has brought down crude prices and world commodity prices!

What part of this clause is not understood? If does not belong to you, and it belongs to the country who can auction it? How can Modi action something that does nor belong to him? Can the PM action the prime minister's house? What foolishness, to defend indefensible.

The statue says that the Minister must not accept gifts except from a foreign dignataries. Then also anything over Rs 5000.00 belongs to the country. When you do not have the ownership how can you dispose it. For the gullible I have a bridge in NY for sale.

The old joke has it that some gullible person might be willing to buy the famed Brooklyn Bridge which, as we all know, could never be put on the block.

The bid it seems has crossed 2.5 crores. Advisories have gone to kejri to auction mufflers, and to sonia to auction shawls. It is well known that nehru family has donated not a single paisa either in cash or in goods received as gifts.

At this rate Modiji might become MGR of India. My nagging feeling is that he should first become a real PM of India. Leader's personal life should not distract us unless it is illegal, immoral or detrimental.

Proved so many times that they who start digging pits for modi themselves fall into the pit and cover themselves with * soil. Media planned to shame modi with 10 lakh suit. Now they have to revise - 4.3 crore suit!

Is it Rs 10 lac or a whopping Rs 4.3 crores! There will be no takers for Sonia's saree or a MMS suit!

PM Narendra Modi?s monogrammed suit sold for Rs 4.31 crore | The Indian Express

The suit which Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore during his meeting with US President Barack Obama went for Rs 4.31 crore to Surat diamond baron and private airline owner Laljibhai Patel on the final day of the auction Friday.

This was the third bid made by Patel. A bid of Rs 5 crore by another diamond baron, Mukesh Patel, was not entertained since it was past the 5 pm deadline.

Some of the highest bids were made by owners of the Diamond Aeronautics Company, which charters planes to fly within Gujarat and to Mumbai.

The base price of the suit, which has ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’ monogrammed as pinstripes, was Rs 11 lakh.

Now the Shiv Sena has defended the auction!

The Shiv Sena today came to the defence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the auction of his pinstripe monogrammed suit and said the two-piece ensemble was valued highly because of the person who wore it.

"Instead of criticising, the Congress can auction the wardrobe and footwear of Rahul Gandhi and see what amount they fetch. Similarly, Arvind Kejriwal can auction his muffler while Lalu Prasad and Mulayam Singh Yadav can call for bidding of their belongings...The suit which fetched over Rs 4.31crore is because of the person who wore it," an edit in party mouthpiece Saamana, said today.

"Modi plans to utilise the money for Ganga river cleaning and girls education. Modi wore the suit only once and builders, industrialists, diamond merchants made a beeline to buy it. Modi wears new clothes every day, if some of them are auctioned, black money from within India will come out and the assurance of unearthing of black money would be fulfilled,"it said.

Will MMS return the Bose speakers and Piaget watch?

Manmohan Singh took home Bose speakers, Piaget watch, reveals RTI query - TOI Mobile | The Times of India Mobile Site

BAREILLY: From a fancy Bose music system to a glittering Piaget ladies wrist watch, former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh took home some 101 unique pieces of gift items that were given to him by heads of states whose countries he visited in his official capacity, an RTI query has revealed. The government has, however, refused to share information about others things like details of Singh's pay and perks, his parting comments and observations before demitting office or the names of countries that gave the presents.

The applicant, Mohammad Khalid Jilani, a lawyer from Bareilly, had filed the RTI query with the office of the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) at the Prime Minister's Office seeking information on three points — the gifts, mementoes and trophies Singh brought home, what he said before stepping down as PM and what he earned in the 10 years that he led the country.

The CPIO explained that the names of countries or the sources of gifts cannot be disclosed in the light of the CIC's order No CIC/AD/C/2009/000802 dated December 21, 2009 (available on the CIC website). The gifts have been retained by Dr Manmohan Singh as permitted under the Foreign Contribution (Acceptance or Retention of Gifts or Presentations) Regulations 1978 and Foreign Contribution (Acceptance or Retention of Gifts or Presentations) Rules 2012.

Responding on behalf of the PMO, assistant secretary and central public information officer (CPIO) Syed Ikram Rizvi in his letter dated July 9, 2014 said that Singh was entitled to salary and perks as per provisions of the amended Pay and Perks Act for ministers 1952. He added that no information was available regarding the comments and observations made by Singh as he left office.

The time one got stopped for speeding, he asked the policeman "why did you not arrest that other guy who overtook me". The cool reply was you got caught.
It is total stupidity as a defense argument that you should not be punished because others doing the same crime have not been punished. If you get CAUGHT doing a crime you get punished. Those who escape and do not get caught are free.

And to those people who were clamoring that big name politicians had black money stashed in Swiss banks, how come even one name was not unearthed?

The govt has told the supreme court that names will be released to public only after proper investigation is done, and due process of law is followed, and will not malign any one based on media reports. All they who vboted for this government have full faith in modi and will judge after the full term.

Of course, BJP needs support of followers and we also need a govt. to run the country. But at the moment it looks like their agenda is to eliminate the vestiges of congress. I am afraid it does not mean it will help the country's development. As it stands Modi and Bedi sooner or later will form a new party SAB ADMI KA PARTY.

Congress mukt bharat means free from congress rule and not no congress. All these years congress wanted to destroy RSS, BJP and other Hindu groups by foul means. Congress has to move away from appeasement and Hindu hating politics if it wants to prosper and compete in national politics. It is now seen as a corrupt and opportunist dynastic party. Gandhi should have insisted on dismantling the congress party by starting a fast unto death instead of supporting pakistan.
