I believe that Gayathri japam cannot be done for prayaschirthatham of family members' Grahana parikaram etc. This mantra for every Brahmin is a personal one and is to purify one's self. You can do this japa for lokakshema only or for prayaschirthatham as we do on tge Gayathri japam day, which is next day after Yajur upakarma. Such a long list of prayaschirthatham or Prasada sidhyartham is not required.
It's my personal opinion. Others may share theirs.
If Shastra says differently, pls correct me.
