Suzuki says add ‘Quality’ to Modi’s Make in India

As India pushes to become a global manufacturing hub, Suzuki Motor Corporation Chairman and CEO, Osamu Suzuki, stressed on the need for “Quality in India”, especially in auto components sector to become a top international supplier.
“It is mentioned here Make in India, I’d like to add Quality in India,” Mr. Suzuki said while addressing the annual session of ACMA here.
Reiterating the need to focus on quality he said, “I believe if all suppliers follow Quality in India, then they will be able to overcome the US and China and they can acquire the number one position in global market.”
“The global recall of more than one million units of vehicles has put the focus on quality,” he said
“Hence it doesn’t leave any doubt that quality is an important key to success and in this regard everyone must have noticed that in today’s situation vendor selection on basis of quality is inevitable,” he added.

In India it is "jugaad" which rules, and quality is not at all important.

The culture itself has to change.
 
Indias basic concern is cost and not quality so much.

I remember we used to get japanese items of poor quality in fiftees {like table tennis balls which could be crushed with hand and were very cheap.

We get chinese items of very poor quality like lamps and decorative hangings etc at diwali time.

Once our exports increase we might make products keeping quality in view.

We make what can be sold with minimal effort . If that gets difficult we mght change.

Most are one time exporters . They make a killing on a product in one attempt and do not try for a repeat order. We move on to another product fast.

We are best at making cheap alternatives/imitations of expensive products by reverse engineering and cheaper raw materials. A good strategy for easy money.

Many make a fast buck on export incentives and over invoicing.

Export is a complicated game.

Some play it with skill.
