Sweets neivedhyam during 10 days kaariyam

Namaskaram, my father (84, Yajur veda, Apasthamba sutram) passed away on Apr 19, 2021 and we have completed the 3rd day rituals today. Some in the family are saying daily at lease one sweet has to be prepared and neivedhyam has to be done in the evening every day till the 13th day ceremony. We find it a bit unusual to prepare and eat those sweets everyday after losing our father. Is this prescribed in dharma shastram as compulsory or is it only a family custom? Can some one clarify please? Thank you.
