The Global Investors Meet, Tamil Nadu biggest industrial venture, is expected to generate more than 1,50,000 jobs in the next three years. Global Inventors Meet (GIM) 2015 aims to attract more than Rs 1 lakh crore (USD16 billion) into Tamil Nadu. The government earmarked Rs 100 crore for this event.

Who else can lead better than none other than Jayalalitha!!

There was lot of action today with HCL's Shiv Nadar promising $ 1 Billion investment in South Tamil Nadu...With a normal power situation hope more industries come..But labor disputes are our bane...Understand Foxconn is moving to Maharashtra

Inviting global investors to take advantage of industry-friendly policies of Tamil Nadu, chief minister Jayalalithaa today said the state had set an investment target of USD 250 billion in the infrastructure sector in the coming years.

"Investment in Tamil Nadu is a sound investment", she said while inaugurating the 'Global Investors Meet' and an exhibition showcasing, among other things, the achievements of the state.

Jayalalithaa noted that Tamil Nadu was amongst the early states to capitalise on economic reforms launched in India in the early 1990s.

She said that under the 'Vision 2023' initiated by the state government, the per capita income of the state will be raised to the levels of higher income countries.

The chief minister recalled that automobile giants like Hyundai and Ford had set up manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu availing of the industry friendly policies of the state.

The participants at the meet were treated to a glitzy cultural extravaganza including a programme by eminent dancer Urmila Sathyanarayana and her troupe.

The main logo of the global investors meet 'Pegasus' was also unveiled on the occasion.

Pegasus is an ancient Greek winged divine stallion usually depicted as pure white in color, showing development.

The Tamil 'Thai Vazhuthu' (salutary song) was also sung on the occasion.

Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Highways and Ports Pon Radhakrishnan and industry captains including HCL founder Shiv Nadar, Mahendra Group Chief Anand Mahendra and Sundaram Clayton Chairman Venu Srinivasan were present on the occasion.

Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Delegations of partner nations- Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, France, Italy, UK, Singapore and the Russian Federation- are also taking part in the two-day event.

Inviting global investors... etc., is only euphemism for the very ordinary "ammA! thAyaE inta taTTile piccai pODunga!". Those who have the moneys to spare have to become kindly disposed, that's all!

Finally Tamilnadu is getting lucky with a more friendly Central Government with ministers not alien to Tamilnadu like Nirmala and Radhakrishnan - all seem to take pride in making this event success. Few quick starts will win people support and really benefit lot of people. Shiva Nadar's talk of South Tamilnadu will be a great news for many - as Chennai or may be Coimbatore have always been in news and not others - it will lead to overall development.

Recently I have not read that many labor disputes especially in Tamilnadu. South Tamilnadu investments will be a great news for many - as Chennai or coimbatore are the only ones always focussed in news. Pon Radhakrishnan may want to do something in his Kanyakumari.

Over Rs 1 lakh crore committed for Tamil Nadu at Global Investors Meet: Jayalalithaa

PTI | Sep 9, 2015

CHENNAI: Investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore was committed for Tamil Nadu at a maiden Global Investors Meet that began here on Wednesday, chief minister Jayalalithaa said as she made a strong pitch for pushing the infrastructure sector.

"The Global Investors Meet (GIM) had targeted investment commitments of Rs 1 lakh crore, which has already been exceeded. I am very confident that further commitments would be made over these two days," she said while lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating "a more investor-friendly climate".

Inaugurating the two-day meet which is being attended by 5,000 delegates, including 1,000 from abroad, Jayalalithaa showcased the state as a top investment destination and assured businesses that their foray into Tamil Nadu was "sound investment".

Batting for more investment in her state, Jayalalithaa referred to her various pro-industry initiatives and said that "a total investment in infrastructure of $250 billion is planned".

"These are not idle promises or mere ideas. Implementation of 84 of the 217 projects and programmes identified under the 'Vision Tamil Nadu-2023' has already commenced," she said.

She also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives on the economic front, saying the "investor-friendly initiatives will enthuse" the businesses planning to invest in Tamil Nadu.

"The Honourable Prime Minister has spearheaded many recent initiatives to create a more investor-friendly climate and encourage more foreign direct investment," she said.

Union commerce minister Niramala Sitharaman, who delivered the special address at the event, hailed Tamil Nadu as an investor-friendly state with huge opportunities that are waiting to be tapped.

Jayalalithaa for her part urged Sitharaman to expedite clearances at the central level for the investments proposed in the GIM.

Delegates at the much-awaited GIM, which was rescheduled twice, were treated to a glitzy cultural extravaganza, including a programme by eminent dancer Urmila Sathyanarayana and her troupe.

The main logo for the global investors' meet, 'Pegasus', was unveiled on the occasion. Pegasus is an ancient Greek winged stallion usually depicted as being pure white in colour.

The roads leading to Chennai Trade Centre — the GIM venue — were decorated with festoons and AIADMK flags while there were performers en route to the meet venue playing percussion instruments.

Great news. It shows how a leader can change the fate of a State by her determination to turn the State of Tamil Nadu in the forefront of development. Hon. Chief Minister J Jayalalitha who inherited many deficits like finance and Power cut,at the time of taking over the administration, has transformed Tamil Nadu a surplus State in many infrastructural areas, within four years of her rule. If we look at the condition of the neighbouring State like Karnataka we will understand this better. Bangalore,(the silicon Capital, and highest tax payer in the State) is passing through the worst time in many areas of normal requirements today. The power situation is alarming with 4 hours of "official" power cut, water shortage, bad roads, uncleared garbage, unfinished Metro rail system etc. due to lack of political guidance and determination.

"a total investment in infrastructure of $250 billion is planned".,

Statements like the above reveal the hollowness of the whole show.

Sangom Ji,

This Government is unable to issue a fresh ration card to every family of this State.

Every family is now managing with the Ration card issued for the period from 2005-2009 and for every year one slip is affixed with the ration card to enable to consumer to avail the essential commodities.

Now. think about the changes that have been taken place during these period ie from 2005-2015 n every family.

There may be lot of changes with addition and deletion of members taking place, like getting married, children born, aged breathing last and some shifting their residence, more moving to own house, etc. etc. There is bright chance of changes both in address and in list of members of every family during the last decade.

In 2012, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India slammed the Government's poor maintenance of PDS records. The audit found that the total number of persons (8.37 crore) included in the family cards in the previous year, was more than the population of the state by 1.16 crore, indicating large-scale existence of bogus cards.

This Government which is unable to check and streamline the system of Public Distribution of Essential Commodities to its families of poor is now collecting crores from the rich.

Now they are talking about issue smart card cards to every family and it is reported that a contract for Rs.318/=crores was approved as early as in January 2015. It is not known as to when the families will get their new Smart Card.

PDS has collapsed in many states.

But in states like Tamilnadu or andhra it is still working ,may be with leakages .

With the introduction of aadhar cards, subsidy transfers to banks is a matter of time.

Bogus cards might make an exit.

In LPG distribution bank transfers did wonders . most get gas in a day or two of booking.

What is happening in karnataka is that bangalore is getting ignored as it is the rural areas which constitute the vote base of the ruling party.

Once karnataka with huge hydro projects was a power surplus state.

Indiscriminate construction and huge inflow of people from all over india has taken its toll.

I still remember bangalore of early sixties when it was sleepy laid back city with excellent weather along with good power and water.

I miss the wonderful evenings in malleswaram with neat roads and sidewalks making it a pleasure for walkers.

It is the Modi effect. The govt came out with full page ads n all national daily newspapers.

Every state is talking of single window clearance and abundance of power and water to sell their state to business houses.

The conversion rate of MOUs to actual project sometimes not high.

Some like Foxconn closed their shops .

There is sri city coming up across the border in AP -just 2 hours drive chennai.

C naidu is also vigorously wooing industrialists.

PDS has collapsed in many states..

The Topic is glorifying about Investors Meet organised by the State of Tamil Nadu.

Why bring in other States here? And why the comparison?

And for your information, there are States that are reported to use simple technological fixes as computerization, door step delivery of food grains and install global position system to track food grain movement and thus improved the transparency and efficiency in the system. While other States can do it.........

There is a basic conflict of ideologies.

If industrial growth is to take place, both indian and foreign companies have to be wooed with attractive terms. Some large parcels of land have to be ear marked for

them. In states like W Bengal singur happened and Tatas got forced to shut shop as it hurt farmers interests.

In other states also land became the bone of contention between farmers and industries.

Land acts have been put on back burner in light of this.

Farmer issues are coming to the fore on account of weak monsoon and failed agriculture leading to much misery on the countryside.

the strategy of reconciling industrial growth steps with sops for the farming sector is a challenge for all state govts and the centre.

unless there is a big effort is made to tackle farm crisis, there is likelihood of turmoil.

leftists are shouting the loudest as they have lost their relevance in indian politics.

I stay in Bangalore for the past 50 years and the change I have seen is phinominal. The population has reached around one crore today. I do understand the requirements have also increased to that extent. But the government has not equipped themselves to meet the increase in demand.
PDS is a big flop in almost all States. The system is misused to make money by unscrupulous people.
