Tanzanian girl assaulted, stripped by mob after Bengaluru woman dies in accident

Tanzanian student had nothing to do with the students involved in the accident

A 35-year-old woman in Hesaraghatta in north Bengaluru died on Sunday after being rammed by a car driven by an African (Sudanese) student. But an irate mob assaulted a 21-year-old Tanzanian student, who came to the accident spot 30 minutes after the incident. She was also allegedly stripped and assaulted by the mob.

The Tanzanian student, who is a second year BBA student of Acharya College had nothing to do with those involved in the accident. She arrived in a car half hour after the accident. A Sudanese man was driving the car involved in the accident.

The news that a Tanzanian student was attacked, has found place in in Sun TV news, today morning.
One thing, we should realise that there exists a lot of cultural difference between Africans and Indians.
Most of the African students are drug addicts / drunkards. They become social nuisance and do some mess around them. They are not consciously aware of what they are doing. They are under the impression if a person has money, any thing could be done in Indian condition.

This is not the first time, they come under mob attack.

Most violence against africans is because of colour prejudice.

Attacking a tanzanian girl for an accident caused by a sudanese shows bangalore in a bad light.

Even in delhi one AAP minister ended up roughing africans on complaints from local residents leading to police case against him.

They would not dare do such things against white foreigners.

Africans are also people like us who have suffered white rule and they have come to our country for education and in some cases employment.

They deserve to be treated better.

A day after the DC expose on the plight of the Tanzanian girl student who was stripped off her clothes and humiliated by an angry mob after an accident in Hesaraghatta in which the girl and her four friends were not involved, the city police went into damage control mode.
While responding to the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's queries, city police said that a criminal case had been registered and four people arrested, but failed to clarify that the four men in detention were charged with arson and were not part of the mob that had beaten up the young African woman from Dar es Salaam.
On Wednesday, police picked up the five Tanzanian students from their homes and took them to Peenya police station, where they recorded their statements before taking them to Sapthagiri Hospital for medical examination.
The swift action by the police was carried out when the four victims including the girl were on their way to go public with their side of the story at the Alternative Law Forum.

Meanwhile, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, T.R. Suresh, DCP, North Division Claimed, "We have recorded the statement of the victim in which she has mentioned that her top was torn off and she was physically assaulted and humiliated by the mob. We have added the appropriate IPC section along with the arson case that has been registered at the Soladevanahalli police station."
When asked why the police did not register the girl's complaint on Sunday night, the DCP said, "The police had rushed to the spot and rescued two African students, one of them was the driver of the second car and took them to NRR Hospital and then subsequently to the police station."
This is called intolerance
This post is not against Modi, so please you Modi-worshippers don't jump to conclusion.
If the government can not protect its own citizen, and guests, it is responsible for the ridicule, and shame.

Tanzanian woman assault: How racism and malice goes beyond Bengaluru

Excerpt:

This morning I woke up to two conflicting pieces of news. A friend of mine informed me that a mob had attacked a Tanzanian woman in Bengaluru and she was beaten and stripped because a Sudanese man had killed someone with his car. I remembered Yannick’s friend asking me: How people can be so hostile in a peaceful country like India?

Half an hour later, my grandmother called from Chennai to tell me she had returned from a stint in the hospital where she had met a beautiful baby. “The nurses were cooing over the baby in Tamil, while the parents spoke French. They all seemed to understand each other perfectly,” she said. “I think they were from West Africa.”

P.S: Those who talk about 'Intolerance' should certainly read para 2 also. Besides, mainytaining law and order is a State subject. It is the State which is more responsible.

I agree...Africans are treated badly becos of color prejudice and surprisingly Indians that come in various shades of brown themselves are prejudiced.

We are a colour conscious nation.

The desire to be fair , ads promoting fairness creams, wanting a gori bahu . We want even our servants to be fair.

We discriminate on this basis.

If incidents like this happens in metros where is supposed to better law and order , it sends a wrong signal to all.

Bangalore is hosting a foreign investor meet this week .Who will dare to invest if such things happen?

It is Karnataka which attracts more foreign students.

It is reported that there are Engineering Colleges in Karnataka that offer freebies, flexible free structure, discounted admission fee, more scholarships, free hostel, Library and other facilities to attract foreign students.

"Karnataka is top draw for foreign students

BENGALURU: Karnataka is the most populardestination for foreign students in the country. According to the Annual Statusof Higher Education 2015 prepared by the Confederation of Indian Industry,India has 34,774 foreign students, with Karnataka (13,241) attracting the mostnumber, followed by Tamil Nadu (4,401) and Maharashtra (3,888).

The CIIprepared the report in partnership with Deloitte and with HRD ministry'ssupport. Some 45% of foreign students in the country are women.

It appears that there is no talk about the hit and run case and the victim who died.

Not necessarily the person who caused the accident is African / American / Indian.......... in all hit and run cases irate and infuriated mob and the kith and kin of the victim in the accident, become mad and will go to any extend.
Those who have witnessed similar scenes / incidents in person alone could understand.

Are you talking about a wild beast, or civilized human being.
Vigilante justice is dangerous in a civilized society. A mob mentality is a threat to all. Then to find an innocent person and punish them for a crime they did not commit is barbaric and unjust.

Please do not support this idiocy.

All victims must be accorded speedy trial, and the correct person should be punished according to the law. We all depend on it.

This poor man Sanaullah Ambdul Kareem Saheb’s wife, a35 year old women, was run over by an allegedly drunk Sudanese student . This man is still in shock. It is reported he escaped death as the carbrushed him before killing his wife.

So, a foreign national comes to India to study, go topub, freely take drinks and drive the car and kill one of the innocent lady. Look at the fate of this man who lost his wife now. And there is none to speak about this tragic traffic accident or about his wife whowas killed.

But it is very unfortunate that this Tanzanian girl was assaulted by the mob and her car was torched.

Now everyone including media’s focus is on the girl and there is unsettled dispute whether she was stripped or not. And there will be debate over foreignstudents cower in fear and poor attendance in college by Foreign students, etc etc

Who is bothered about an Indian lady who was killed by the foreign student?

It is reported that five members are held by local policefor rioting and arson.

The Minister has said that he is waiting for the probe report.

The media has taken up this issue of local mob assaultinga foreign national as usual. They will blow suchincident out of proportion till they get something new.

Now no one seems to talk that all these unfortunate incident would have been well avoided, if the Sudanase national had been responsible while driving.

Though we want the guilty to the punished.......law will take its own course....

Only Salman khan.. Hit and Run case…. comes to my memory.

Now it is Media -Vs- Media.

"Media vs Media- A clash of narratives on the Tanzanian woman assault in Bengaluru

Daggers drawn between Kannada media and English media in Tanzanian girl case

The assault of a Tanzanian woman by a mob following an accident caused by a Sudanese national, has exposed two issues – racial discrimination of the Africans that has built a sense of fear among them and the locals who disapprove of African nationals.

What intensifies the situation though is the media narrative.

While the English media has unequivocally condemned the attacks calling it ‘racial’, many Kannada media houses have taken sides with the locals.

[h=1]Union minister's theatre of the absurd: After Bengaluru attack, Gowda tells state to keep eye on foreign students[/h]Bengaluru: Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda on Friday asked the Karnataka government to form a special squad to keep a watch on foreign students, in the wake of an alleged assault and stripping of a Tanzanian woman here. Attacking the Congress-led state government for not acting on locals' complaint regarding the "wrong" behaviour of certain foreign students, Gowda sought the Central government's intervention to find the truth about the assault on Sunday night.

He also said that innocent people should not be arrested as was being alleged by the locals.

Every tragic death caused by other human beings should be mourned. The law should take care of punishment. That is the civilized way.
When you involve a foreign nation, then it becomes even more tragic, as it becomes an international incident.
Sanaullah Ambdul Kareem Saheb’s wife is sadly is a statistics in the number of traffic deaths.
Balu sir,
Do you morn each and every traffic death? Did you morn the death of pavement dwellers when Salman Khan killed them?
Yes it was tragic, but i think we have laws to take care of the punishment.

But this kind of mob targeting an innocent person (another foreigner) for its anger is totally unjust and to be reprimanded. India wants to be a destination for foreigner for education, or tourism must treat them with respect. Yes they should be given extra protection.

So curb your India mahan, and see for what it is. If Indian government can not protect its guests, it should not ask them to visit India. I am sorry you are more worried about potential criminals and not worried about innocent guests.

A vigilante justice might seem to work in Bollywood movies, but is generally wrong. It is unjust, criminal and arbitrary.

The constable who failed to protect the 24-year-old Tanzanian girl from mob attack last Sunday, and two other policemen, were suspended on Friday. Four more persons have also been arrested in connection with the attack. Tanzanian High Commissioner John W.H. Kijazi sought an increased role for embassy officials in the measures to build confidence between the African community and the locals.

A co-ordination committee for African students has been formed by the city police.

Acknowledging that there were small frictions between the communities, Mr. Kijazi told presspersons: “I have come here as a representative of all African nations and my colleagues at the embassies. We wish to be part of these peace exercises.”

The High Commissioner, who earlier met Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara and top police officials, said he believed the communities could live in harmony.

“I call upon the African students to respect the laws of the land, the State’s and the local leadership. I call upon the local community to understand the students and discuss the issues,” he said.

He met the victim of the attack, sources said.

Declining to term the attacks “racist”, the Tanzanian High Commissionersaid racism had numerous interpretations.

Striking a conciliatory note after a two-hour long meeting with Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Mr. Kijazi expressed appreciation for the stern measures taken by the State government following the attack.

Mr. Kijazi told reporters: “We have not come to discuss racism. What we should now focus in only on the future and ensure such instances are not repeated. More than racism, there are small frictions between communities – the African students and the locals, which manifest sometimes,” he said.

Partha Satpathy, Joint Secretary (States), Ministry of External Affairs, who was also part of the meeting said that they had come here to tell the students that the country cared for the security of African students and they were always welcome.

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the molestation incident, while observing that it amounted to not only a serious violation of human rights of the student, but also racism.

The NHRC has issued notices to the Karnataka Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, asking them to submit a report within two weeks on the action taken by them in the matter, which involved alleged stripping of the student on January 31 night. The Commission noted that when the student was allegedly stripped and forced to walk “without her top”, a police constable, who was present at the scene, remained a mute spectator. She lodged a complaint with the police as well.

Less than four months after an Australian man was violently harassed for sporting a tattoo of an Indian goddess, Bengaluru is in the news again, for sinking to new lows of bigotry and vigilantism. This time it was a Tanzanian woman at the receiving end of mob fury. It all reportedly began with an accident in which a Sudanese national drove his car over a 35-year-old woman, killing her. A mob quickly gathered, determined to mete out instant justice. When he managed to flee, his car was burnt down. Half an hour later, a Tanzanian student who happened to be passing by with her friends stopped by to inquire what was going on. The mob turned its ire on her and her three friends even though they were in no way connected to the Sudanese man involved in the accident — other than being, in the eyes of the mob, of the same race as the Sudanese, African. She was chased, assaulted, and had her clothes torn by the mob before being rescued. Her car, too, was torched. The incident occurred on Sunday, but the police did not register a complaint until Tuesday. The lackadaisical response of the law and order machinery prompted the Tanzanian High Commission to register a protest with the Indian government. This, in turn, prompted External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to write to Karnataka Chief Minister K. Siddaramaiah. By Thursday, four suspects had been arrested and investigations are currently on.

The entire episode raises a disturbing question: is it any longer possible, or even plausible, to express shock at what has happened? Such acts of violence are not peculiar to Bengaluru alone. Indeed, something like this did happen, not too long ago, in Delhi. Under the controversial guidance of a Law Minister of the State, African women were branded as ‘prostitutes’ and molested in a ‘midnight raid’. The Bengaluru mob, too, seems to have given free rein to racism. The repeated targeting of Africans suggests a case of pathological colourism — discrimination and hostility directed against dark-skinned people. Indians’ cultural preference for fair skin is well known, and amply attested by the vast market for fairness creams. It is quite common to find people remark admiringly on how ‘fair’ a newborn baby is. And matrimonial advertisements are notorious for seeking ‘fair’ brides. However, to reduce the depressing message from this episide to skin colour alone would be to underestimate the discrimination and violence in India against those who are visibly ‘different’. Some years ago, Bengaluru saw an exodus of young people from northeastern India residing in the city after rumours spread of violence targeting them. In the national capital, even as the megalopolis becomes more cosmopolitan, the periodicity of assaults on residents from the northeast is such that there appears to be a pattern. Certainly, both the citizenry and the law and order machinery need to be sensitised to the prejudices. But the task can only be achieved if strong political expression is given to the essential value of diversity and tolerance.

So before of get up on your high horses and kill or drive away anyone who does not look like you. Be aware that lot of Indians are spread out throughout the world.
This incident leads to the probablity of the Indians being attacked in African countries .The diplomatic move should be expedited and to avoid friction between countries.

Such kind of discrimination acts certainly affects the reputation of 'Incredible' India in the world. It is most of the time observed crowd decides doing 'justice'. The law should provide prompt arrangements to avoid any such public outrage. There should be strict laws to ensure no discriminations and violence are faced by immigrants or any civilian based on caste/creed/colour of the person. Now that's something we should show intolerance to.

http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/edi...in-bengaluru/article8194365.ece?homepage=true

Believe me..racial discrimination exist everywhere.

Out here last month a male of a particular Non Indian community had fallen of his bike and fractured his leg and his bone was sticking out of his leg.

A female doctor happened to pass by and stopped to help him..she was a South Indian Msian and the injured male used a derogatory racists remark on her and told her not to touch him.

But she still stayed on and called for an ambulance and waited till the ambulance arrived..only then he realized that she was a doctor and he apologized..but one does not have to be disrespectful even if a person who is helping you is not a doctor..why be a racists.

Frankly speaking I really admire that doc for being there till the ambulance came and still helped out even while being racially abused.I don't think anyone else would have still helped out.

Prasad Ji,

You are talking about the law.

But when there was a
court order to release water from Cauvery Water to Tamil Nadu, there was agitation, demonstration, there were attacks on Tamilians living at Karnataka. Theatres which screened Tamil Movies were torched. Religious leaders, Karnataka leading filmstars, Politicians, Chamber of Commerce, etc etc took out rallies. In past, there was ban on screening Tami lMovies in Karnataka theatres for some time.

And the fact remains that most of the leading stars of Tamil Cinema hails from Bengaluru.

This is our neibouring State which depends on Tamil Nadu State for certain items.

What one can see in such a sporadic incidents is that the anti-social elements take undue advantage of the situation and create all types of damage under the guise of activists.

The breaking-news starved Medias, on their part, take full advantage of such sporadic incidents and try to make hill out of a mole thus boost their sales.

We have been seeing such media hype every now and then.

And of course law is there to take care…… but ….not as expeditiously as one expects and we have been seeing sensational cases being dragged for decades.

And there are few who believe that it is nothing but a row between two national parties playing blame game.

The law which is now taking care of the aggrieved, by arresting of few alleged culprits and suspending few policemen, hope will also take care of the Sudanese student who is responsible for the death of a 35 year old lady. Such irresponsible behaviour of a foreign national in Indian soil cannot be brushed away as a traffic accident. It should serve as an eye opener for foreign national to respect the local laws.

This family cannot digest the sudden demise of a member of the family for no fault of hers. Such student who violate local law should be given maximum punishment for such cruel act.

Hope the law will take care by punishing the guity.

We can talk of and teach morals and ethics only to civilised people and not to an irate mob.

I used to stay in Bangalore a minimum of 2/3 months during every summer. The atrocities of Africans under the influence of drugs are untold / unheard stories to many.
All locals are very much in anger against police also as they are easily bribed by these people.
All local politicians will take side with locals only to curtail the menace / nuisance.
This is the ground reality
