Tharpanam in the first year

Is one required to perform Tharpnanam in the first year of death? I hv been given to understand that in the first year masikams are to be performed, hence, no need. please clarify. thanks.

Tharpanam can be started only after the aabdeekam or first anniversary functions. People as also Vaadhyars prefer "thai amavaasai" immediately after aabdeekam, to start tharpanam. But it can be started on any amaavaasai during Uttharayanam.

Dear Sangom, I have discussed the above question with my Vaadiyar who is a First class graduate and a gold medalist from Kanchi Patashala. As per him, Tharpanam is to be performed from the first year itself. he said even if Tharpanam falls on 13th day from the date of death, the Karta is required to perform Tharpanam in the morning and perform all other rituals later in the day. Thanks.
