[h=3]Illegal, China-bound snake venom consignment seized near Siliguri - The Economic Times[/h]SILIGURI: Siliguri, a town in the northern part of West Bengal, may be becoming a hub for illegal international trade in snake venom. A consignment of what's suspected to be processed Black Cobra venom, estimated to be worth Rs 100 crore ($15.8 million), was seized near Siliguri on Saturday, allegedly on its way to from France to China via Bangladesh, India, Bhutan. The shipment was intercepted at Belakoba, about 30 km (18 miles) southeast of Siliguri, which is a transit point for air, road and rail traffic to the neighboring countries of Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh and to the northeastern states.
