Who can ever forget the melodious and touching "Maanase maine varoo!"

[h=3]K. Santhosh on Chemmeen's 50th anniversary.[/h]          It was on  August 19, 1965, that Malayalam cinema carved a niche for itself on the  Indian cinema map when actors Madhu and Sheela sauntered across the  sands of Nattika beach in central Kerala for the making of Chemmeen.  Fans remember the movie as director Ramu Kariat’s faithful adaptation of  Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai’s novel of the same title. The book won the  Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 1957 and was translated into 30 Indian  and foreign languages.
