Rajesh Sakre challenged the government-run State Bank of India back in 2011, when he realized Rs. 9,200 was missing from his bank account.

Never underestimate the power of a common man - let this tea vendor from Bhopal show you why.

Rajesh Sakre would have you believe he is a regular guy, except he has just fought and won a case against one of India's largest banks.

Mr Sakre who has only studied till Class five, challenged the government-run State Bank of India back in 2011, when he realized that a sum of Rs. 9,200 was missing from his bank account.

According to a report in Bhopal Samachar, Mr Sakre had Rs. 20,000 in his account, from which he withdrew a sum of Rs. 10,800. However, on his next ATM visit he realized his account had been wiped clean.

Mr Sakre went to one of the Bank's branches to complain but the officers shrugged, and blamed him for the mess. He then made an appeal to the bank's Mumbai headquarters, but it didn't work. As a last resort, he filed a case in the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum.

He didn't have enough money to hire a lawyer, so he went head to head with the bank's lawyers to fight his own case in court.

The bank insisted that it was Mr Sakre who had withdrawn the amount in question. But they could not produce any evidence like CCTV footage to back their claim.

After about a dozen hearings, Mr Sakre won the battle.

On June 16, the consumer court ruled in his favour and ordered the State Bank of India to return Rs. 9,200 along with 6% interest within two months. In addition to this, the bank also has to cough up Rs. 10,000 for the mental anguish they caused their consumer and another sum of Rs. 2,000 for his legal expenses.

Mr Sakre's story should inspire many who just let such matters slide, instead of taking proper legal action.

The way banks function -many deserve to be taken to court.

I was harassed by ICICI for trying to put cash into my tenants account in another city. It was a small amount -couple of thousands.

I was forced to sign some papers and give declaration that it was a legitimate transaction . Also it required bank managers approval. I wasted two hours for such a

transaction. they quoted some RBI guidelines.

At canara bank ATM right opposite my house , I found a dog sleeping at the entry door making it difficult to enter . since ATM was air conditioned , it was comfortable

for the dog -this was the explanation given by the bank located on another floor of the building .lol

There was no attempt to resolve the problem. The bank found it humourous that dog was guarding the ATM

In future you must not be surprised to see Beggars inside an ATM as it will be more comfortbale to spend the hot summers in A/C ATMS all over the city and as usual the banks will give an excuse that they are indiretcly gurading the ATM LOL

i think dog is better than night watch man.....generally night watch man used to drink heavily and sleep in a/c room...but

dogs never drink....see the symbol of SYNDICATE BANK.....

Dear sri. Krish
Banks will not accept cash ordinarily for credit of Third parties account maintained at outstation under Core Banking System. They may charge a minimum of Rs.30/- or Rs.50/- Had you accepted to remit it at the counter while your turn of token came; the matter would have been over in 5 minutes.
Ordinarily banks will not show RBI guidelines unless an argument is already entered into by the customer. We should also understand that Banks are not charitable institution. They may have to incur some incidental expenses for effecting your transactions. At par (free of charges) could be done waiving charges with the discretionary powers vested with the Manager. He could waive charges only for very valued customers. You may also agree that Bank staff are treating public with more courtesy than their counter parts in any other public sector undertakings / Government Department.
Regarding the remark that a dog was found sleeping in an ATM, I would like to bring forth to your attention that an irresponsible customer like me, would have forgotten to close the door after using ATM. Otherwise the dog could not have entered there by opening pull/push door.
a comment in lighter vein: Sir, If you have one more Flat/house, please let on rent to me. I would be a privileged tenant to get money from the land lord, at times.
sincerely
yesmohan

Dear yesmohanji

I stood in the queue only with a form for remittance filled in . they was a column for cash remittance . the cashier at the counter told me that I need to fill an additional form specifying the reason for cash transfer and getting

bank branch manager approval.

After getting approval ,I stood in the queue for second time to get it accepted by cashier..

I did not want any concessions for remittance. I would have gladly parted with service charges if any . none was asked from me.

You cannot be like my tenant. He is a resource for me. He fixed my flat , got my flat sanitory problems, carpentry[doors, almirah] fixed. He got the flat washed thru his own

agency. He renewed my gas connection . recently I made him buy a new frig giving away the old frig in exchange. I did not even meet him before leasing my flat to

him, I believe in trusting unknown people. even the home rental contract was taken care of by third parties [a private company in real estate business catering to

NRIs}.. .I met my tenant one month after leasing. Whatever he spends I reimburse promptly. He does not charge me for his services.lol

so think it over . Do you want to be my tenant?

The dog was on the one step at door of ATM partially open . It was not inside. One had to jump over it to enter. it should have enjoyed the cool air from inside leaking

out. you know banks other than SBI are reluctant to open ATMS due to costs involved . most specially private ones would like their their clients use SBI atms.

So RBI came out strictly warning banks to open ATMs incase they have a branch anywhere. but most do not like to have hassle of supporting ATMs and see it is filled

with money. many are non functional.
