Uber shock again, driver accused of molesting woman in Delhi
Jun 01, 2015
Just months after a 27-year-old financial consultant was allegedly raped by an Uber cab driver, another instance of alleged harassment of a woman by a driver of the US-based transportation network company has surfaced.
A woman has alleged that an Uber cab driver tried to forcefully kiss her and molest her and that her complaints to the web-based cab hailing service went unanswered.
In a Facebook post, the victim's brother attached a copy of the complaint made to Uber on May 30 along with the company's reply.
"My sister availed your cab service for Gurgaon and your cab driver Vinod tried to kiss her forcibly and even after registering complaint with you morons there has been no action, no update from your end," the post read.
The company, in a reply sent to the victim's sister, said it was following up the matter with the driver and that it has a "zero tolerance policy" for such cases.
When Hindustan Times contacted Uber for comment, it denied any knowledge of the incident.
Sources in Delhi’s transport department confirmed that cab services like Uber and Ola are still banned from plying and any operation by them is illegal.
In December, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a Uber cab driver in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla. The woman, who works for a finance company in Gurgaon, told police she boarded the cab at 9.30pm from south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, where she had gone for a party.
She was allegedly raped at an isolated place between Sarai Rohilla and Inderlok, police said. The cabbie threatened to kill and sexually assault her with a rod if she resisted. He dropped her home after the attack.
