Vaishno Devi story begins when Mother Goddess Shakti appeared to annihilate the demons on earth who were spreading and encouraging Adharma. Story of Vaishno Devi has it that Mother Goddess Kali, Saraswati and Lakshmi appeared together at a holy spot. From the unimaginable light that they generated appeared a manifestation of the Mother Goddess. This was Ma Vaishno Devi.
She was then born as the daughter of Ratankar and his wife in South India. The happy couple named her Vaishnavi. From a young age, Vaishnavi was highly spiritual and longed to merge with Srihari Vishnu. Her presence on earth made all living beings happy. The spot she resided became heaven.
Years passed by. Vaishnavi then met Bhagvan Sri Ram during his exile period. They both immediately realized each other. She desired to be merged with Srihari Vishnu.
But Bhagvan Sri Ram asked her to continue her austerities and promised her that she will get the opportunity to merge with Him during Kali Yuga. Sri Ram told her that when he will appear as Kalki in Kali Yuga; She will then merge with Him.
Sri Ram then asked Goddess to setup her abode in Trikuta Hills. He asked her to remain there during the most difficult period of Kali Yuga and spread Dharma.

Vaishno Devi is open for pilgrims throughout the year, but the best time to undertake the journey is between the months of March and October. A lot of pilgrims visit Vaishno Devi between these months as the weather is cool and pleasant, but maximum visitors plan their trip during the Navratras.
[h=4]Off Season[/h] During the winters from November to February, the temperature reaches sub-zero levels and we recommend only the physically fit to visit at that time. The upside is that this is the time when the skies open up and Katra and the surrounding areas are cloaked in snow.
